Its been 26 years since Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan passed away, leaving the country in such deep mourning that it hasn’t ended yet.

And though his nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan became a star in his own right, the Nusrat sized hole in our souls remained hollow.

    Until now.

A viral video showing Rahat’s son Shahzaman, has taken social media by storm, astonishing users because of how similar the son sounds to the original maestro, Nusrat.

A twitter user Dan Qayyum, shared the video, shot at a concert in the USA.

What a great dad he is!
Lets me occupy his seat as he takes mine.
Knowing that i still have to earn this seat but still how willingly he wants to see me on this seat.
How blessed I am to have a father & an Ustad like my dad❤️
    – Shahzaman Ali Khan ”

  • In the latest really messed up development of ‘Tere Bin’ it turns out that Meerab, Murtasim did it consensually

We all know that the latest act in the cesspool that is the Pakistani drama circus was the controversial promo of ‘Tere Bin’ which aired last week. The trailer implied that female lead Meerab (played by Yumna Zaidi) was raped by her husband Murtasim (played by Wahaj Ali).

Twitter users were shocked, tagging the actors, production staff and even the writer, Nooran Makhdoom herself, to criticise the development as deeply misogynist and horrifying. But then, instead of reassuring the audience, Makhdoom decided to fan the flames even more with controversial statements given to Arab News, defending the marital rape by saying that it has been going on for a long time on Pakistani screens.

Mmmm.. still not a good reason though.

Finally, the episode has aired and it turns out, the sex was not rape. It was consensual.

    Yes, you read that right.

We are dragged through the first agonizing 15 minutes of Mariam’s marriage, and her reluctance to open her heart, yada yada.

And then we are reluctantly led to THAT scene where our favorite toxic jori, Murtasim and Meerab, actually did the deed in a consensual manner, but even that led to a lot of ronay dhonay.

Twitter was mostly amused but some were horrified at how a once popular show has destroyed itself by pandering to sensationalism. Kudos to them for taking out the marital rape but really, where is the plot going?

    On God this is hilarious

Chalo iss baat mein hilarious memes tou mil gayien

  • Transgender activist Shehzadi Rai, Twitter users criticise ‘Guru’ for hiring cis man to play intersex character

Express Entertainment has recently released the teaser trailer of the upcoming drama ‘Guru’ about an intersex character, with the main character to be played by Ali Rehman Khan.

The announcement has received backlash on social media, with transgender activists like Shehzadi Rai taking to Twitter to criticise how such castings prevent opportunities for members of the khwajasira community to tell their own stories:

“Cisgender men taking opportunities in acting roles that intended for transgender individuals. It is important to promote diversity and inclusivity in all fields, including acting. Kuch tu chor do.”

Speaking to The Current on the use of ‘intersex’ to describe the khwajasira community, as well as giving third gender roles to men, Rai said:

“People who do not want to declare themselves as intersex, why are you pushing the label on them? And roles that are about the third gender, you should give them to people who identify under it. A man’s role would be played by a man, while a woman’s role would be played by a woman.”

Other Twitter users have slammed the announcement as a disservice to the khwajasira community, by profitting of their stories but refusing to lift up members of the community. One user added:

“Most Pakistani celebrities will never utter a word in support of the khawajasira community when their rights are being taken away but would be the first ones to accept roles to portray khawajasira characters in dramas. Token inclusion at its finest.”

Another user compared the response of this casting to the backlash the film ‘Joyland’ had received, for which the transgender actress Alina Khan had been cast, and how the backlash began because an actual person from the marginalized community had stepped forward to tell their own story:

“This is hypocrisy. When Joyland featured an actual khwajasira person, the entire country is up in arms. But we seem to be totally okay with basing our movies and shows on their lives as long as we’re not actually giving them opportunities in the process.”

Many also criticised Express Entertainment for representing a marginalised community with someone who does not belong to it.

“Express tv really think they are making difference by representing marginalised community featuring a cis man in mainstream media & capitalising from it? when u could hire someone from the community because Im sure there are talented trans people who deserve this opportunity.”

  • ‘Your wife is not your cleaner’: Washing powder brand’s new commercial has enraged Twitter users

Ever thought that Pakistani commercials couldn’t go lower than they already are? Welp, Brite decided to hit rock bottom with an advertisement that has enraged social media on its blatant display of misogyny.

The commercial shows a woman opening her husband’s suitcase and finding his clothes covered with food stains. But below the clothes is a package and a card which tells the mother to not worry, because Brite can wipe away all kinds of food stains.

First of all, how is it possible that a grown working man dribbles this much food down his clothes? And is this woman his wife, or a walking talking robot who is now responsible for all of his chores? Twitter had the same questions when they caught hold of the ad.

A user slammed it as a failed marketing strategy, which is once more highlighting the fact that women weren’t equal members of the households, but they were subservient to the men around them.

Others began joining in, sharing other sexist advertisements that they have disagreed with.

Women are not your domestic helpers. They don’t exist to clean and cook around you. Especially if you’re a grown man who is capable of travelling but can’t seem to clean himself.

  • Trouble, Trouble, Trouble: Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Matty Healy faces backlash from fans for problematic history of islamophobia, racism, sexist jokes

Trouble, Trouble, Trouble: Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Matty Healy faces backlash from fans for problematic history of islamophobia, racism, sexist jokes

We knew you were trouble when you walked in like quite literally the receipts are right here.

Taylor Swift made headlines when the ‘Anti Hero’ singer started dating the frontman of The 1975 band, Matty Healy, after splitting up from her longtime boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

However, the news was not received well by fans, who criticised Healy’s problematic history of making racist, sexist and Islamophobic jokes.
Swift has been extremely vocal about her activism for gay rights and feminism, with songs like ‘Mad Woman’ discussing female rage and sexism, and ‘You Need To Calm Down’ from her Lover album empowering the transgender community.

It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero? Not for Tay-Tay it seems.

Fans began sharing clips and problematic posts Healy had posted in the past where he appeared to be mocking Islam. For instance, a fan shared a screenshot of his Instagram stories with a tweet:

“You start dating a Muslim girl then BOOM”

Another user shared a clip of ‘The City’ singer’s interview with Brut Mexico where he slammed religious people by saying they should be ashamed of themselves, addin that he had no rights as an athiest.

“Religious people are always allowed to be offended: ‘Oh, we’re offended by this, I’m offended by that,’ I have to get up every day and read something abhorrent that’s happened in the name of religion.”

The ‘Medicine’ singer has been slammed for his controversial racist and sexist comments about rapper Ice Spice. During his appearance at The Adam Freidland Show, the episode was immediately pulled from Spotify and Apple after backlash, but is still available on Youtube.

Healy had also courted controversy in January when videos emerged of him doing the Nazi salute on stage, a move that has enraged many Swifties

These recent controversies have led to many Swifties starting to retract their support for Swift, and even criticising her for working with problematic men but yet being quite vocal about social issues.

Fans even began using the hashtag #speakupnow to demand Swift addressed the problematic history of her boyfriend, and stand up for the rights she claims to be advocating.

  • Imran Khan says crackdown on party worse than Zia, Musharraf eras

Imran Khan says crackdown on party worse than Zia, Musharraf eras

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has expressed concern on recent crackdowns by law-enforcement authorities on party members.

In a tweet, Khan said that such episodes didn’t even take place during General Ziaul Haq and General Pervez Musharraf’s regimes.

He added that despite all of this his party will not bow down.

The Punjab government has claimed that terrorists who were involved in the attack on military installations on May 9, are hiding at Khan’s Zaman Park residence. The authorities have asked the former Prime Minister to hand them over. On May 18, an operation was expected to take place at Imran Khan’s home, however, it didn’t happen.

Now, it is being reported that Punjab police have obtained warrants from the court to carry out a search operation in Zaman Park.

According to details, an officer of the rank superintendent of police will lead the party which will also include female personnel. Commissioner Lahore Division will accompany the search team.

  • ‘Horrifying’: Twitter users slam ‘Tere Bin’ promo for depicting assault

Trigger warning: discussions of marital rape, assault

In the topsy-turvy world that is Pakistan right now, ‘Tere Bin’ is playing its part by keeping fans running around in circles. With the love-hate relationship between the main leads Murtasim (played by Wahaj Ali) and Meerab (Yumna Zaidi) switching from adorable to toxic to downright horrifying in the recent episode, fans have had enough.

The recent episode of the drama tried to one-up itself to see how low it can go in disappointing its viewers, with once again the writers deciding to bring out the Murtasim caught cheating with Haya card, and ending the episode with Meerab’s assault.

From the promo, viewers can definitely assume that Meerab has been assaulted by her husband and has chosen to leave him.

Was it necessary that Murtasim, who is currently one of the most feminist male leads on our screens, be thrown under the bus just to churn up some views? Why did the writer even assume that after stalking, slapping and attempted suicide, this ‘love story’ had to hit its peak with the most heinous thing: domestic violence?

Legal analyst Reema Omer criticised the scene on Twitter, writing:

“TW: After months of justifying Murtasim slapping, shoving, dragging, asking Meerab to jump off the roof to prove her chastity + other toxic/violent behaviour, even #TereBin fan club is up in arms over the possible marital r*pe suggested by the promo Some silver lining, I guess.”

Founder of ‘Something Haute, Aamna Isani wrote that she was shocked by the depiction of assault, and how could this possibly be a chance after this that Murtasim’s character would be redeemed.

Users were tweeting that they were heartbroken at how the writer of the show has completely destroyed Murtasim’s character

Many were tweeting that this was the end of their support for the drama, given that there is no possible justification to depict marital rape and domestic abuse.

‘With respect, it’s from Pakistan’: Goher Mumtaz, Asim Azhar correct Amitabh Bachchan about viral video

Amitabh Bachchan shared a video on Instagram, showing a little boy with amazing cricket skills. Senior Bachchan praised the boy’s skills, noting that this meant that the future of Indian cricket was in safe hands.

Well, tiny problem. The boy in the video is not Indian. He’s Pakistani. The video comes from Instagram user Raza Mahar, who shared videos of his toddler nephew playing cricket. In his bio, he mentions that he is from Sindh, Pakistan.

Pakistani singers Asim Azhar and Goher Mumtaz offered clarification to Bachchan by commenting underneath his Instagram post.

    Mumtaz had written:

@amitabhbachchan sir, this kid is from pakistan, saw this a while ago through a Pakistani page with his ID, but future of cricket is in our hands if we agree to play in each other’s country Inshallah …btw, greatest fan of yours ”

    Azhar had written:

“Dear sir, huge fan from !

And like my friend @gohermumtazofficial mentioned this kid is from pakistan but you are definitely right on the part where the future is in safe hands for both the sides if we bring back the old days soon where we get to see both stars play on both sides ”

  • ‘Mein tray le kar khara ho jaoon ga’: Vicky Kaushal refused to purchase expensive bar for wife Katrina Kaif

Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal and his iconic wife Katrina Kaif have been serving couple goals since their marriage. Although they are very private, small but significant revelations prove how these two are still head over heels in love with each other.

According to Indian Express, Kaushal recently gave an interview while promoting his latest film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ where he was asked about the dynamics he had with his wife at home. The actor revealed that unlike the ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ diva, he is more careful about spending on luxurious things.

Kaushal narrated a funny discussion between the two about purchasing furniture. He was shocked by Kaif’s suggestion to buy a very pricey bar:

“We have a lot of discussions about furniture at home. Like for example, Madam (Katrina) wants to have a bar at home. She sent me the bar she is thinking to buy, I saw that and thought ye bohot mehengi hai, main he tray leke kahada ho jauga but ye nahi aayega. This is worth my signing amount! So I said, no, this can’t happen.”

A Twitter user shared the clip on their account and we agree with the rest, hum sab aik Vicky Kaushal deserve kartay hain.

Kaushal was also asked a bizzare question about whether he would divorce Kaif if he found a better looking actress, to which the actor responded:

“Sir, shaam ko ghar bhi jaana hai, aise tede-mede sawaal puch rahe ho, bachcha hu, abhi bada toh hone do! Itna khatarnaak sawaal pucha hai aapne.”

After which he paused and said that he would be with Kaif for the next few lifetimes:

    “Sir, janmo-janmo tak.”
