Meta developing new social networking app to compete with Twitter

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is developing a standalone text-based social network app that could potentially compete with both Twitter and its decentralised rival, Mastodon.

According to reports, Meta is exploring the creation of a decentralised social network for sharing text updates, providing a separate space where public figures and creators can share timely updates about their interests.

Meta’s Twitter-like app would allow the company to take advantage of the current confusion at Twitter, where cost-cutting has been widespread ever since Elon Musk’s takeover of the platform late last year. Companies have withdrawn their spending following Twitter’s restoration of suspended accounts and release of a paid account verification that resulted in scammers impersonating firms.

The new app, codenamed P92, will allow users to log in using their existing Instagram credentials and will be based on a similar framework to Mastodon, a Twitter-like service launched in 2016.

The decentralised platform cannot be run at the whim of a single entity and cannot be bought or sold. Meta’s plans come at a time when Facebook, its largest platform, is struggling to capture the attention of younger audiences. In addition, the company has invested heavily in the metaverse, a virtual world where users interact and work, which has yet to come to fruition.

Instagram, its video-sharing app, is also facing tough competition as content creators or hit influencers abandon the platform in favour of TikTok. It is currently unclear when Meta will launch the new app.

  • Record of Toshakhana gifts will be posted online soon, promises Khawaja Asif

Record of Toshakhana gifts will be posted online soon, promises Khawaja Asif

The federal cabinet under the supervision of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has decided to make the details of state gifts received over the past two decades available to the public soon.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced the development on his Twitter account where he revealed that the declassification of Toshakhana records has been allowed by the cabinet, adding that the record would be posted soon on the website of the cabinet division.

Last year in June, PM Shehbaz Sharif constituted a ministerial committee to redesign Toshakhana policy.

Toshakhana has been at the center of a political storm since 2021 when former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was accused of hiding details of the gifts he received during his tenure. A case and an investigation pertaining to the same are currently going on.

However, responding to the controversy Khan said that the gifts were given to him, therefore it was his choice to keep them or not.

Last year, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) also disqualified the PTI chief as Member of the National Assembly (MNA) in the Toshkhana case.

Recently, non-bailable arrest warrants were issued for Khan in the Toshkahana case because of his continued absences from Toshakhana court hearings. Last week, Islamabad Police reached Zaman Park to arrest the PTI chief, however, he managed to evade it.

Later, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the arrest warrant but directed Khan to appear before the trial court by March 13 or face the proceedings of declaring him a proclaimed offender.

Khan’s rally in Lahore creates hurdles for Aurat March participants

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced the start of his party’s election campaign in Lahore on Tuesday. He said that the campaign will start with a rally from March 8 which is celebrated as International Women’s Day. In honour of the day, many women and marginalised people participate in Aurat March.

Despite the announcement of the rally, people came out in huge numbers to participate in Aurat March. However, many of them were stuck in traffic for hours, especially on Mall road, Lahore where police were deployed for Khan’s rally.

Later in the evening on Wednesday, Khan called off the party’s rally in Lahore in the wake of the Punjab government’s crackdown on participants following the imposition of Section 144 in the provincial capital.

Now, the Punjab Home Department has also banned “all kinds of protests, demonstrations and sit-ins” in Lahore for seven days, citing the “overall security situation” in the wake of recent “wave of terrorism and threat alerts”.

Surprisingly, it has been reported that the home department sent a letter to PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid that public gatherings are not advisable as women march is also going to take place. But clearly, they didn’t care.

Chairman Khan went ahead as always, leaving us wondering that didn’t PTI female leaders tell Khan about Aurat March.

‘Dekha mein kitna smile karti hoon’: Jaya Bachchan’s interaction with the press goes viral

Veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan wouldn’t consider celebrity photographers to be her best friends, as in the past few years she has had a few altercations with them when they tried to approach her at events.
However, lag raha tha bahaar agayi when Bachchan pleasantly posed for photos with two other women and cheekily remarked, “dekha mein kitna smile karti hoon.”

Since yesterday, this clip has gone viral on Twitter with users calling Bachchan an icon for her hilarious interaction with a photographer.

    Same with us

Perhaps the most iconic moment of this entire interaction

  • Local man mansplains to woman on how long household chores take, gives Twitter some hilarious content

It’s a tale as old as time, a song as old as rhyme, that men will never stop mansplaining to women about their lived experiences.

Whether you’re a professional or not, men will consistently assume they know better about the topics you have spent your entire life actually doing.

A hilarious exchange took place on Twitter when a woman pointed out how much time and energy is expected from them to complete their household chores but in return they are denied their right to property or receive wages from their husband as compensation.
In jumps Bashir who proudly declares uss ko sab kuch pata hai.

And then to further prove his point, the man decides to make an excel chart of the numerous chores women must complete on a daily basis and the amount of time it takes to complete them. His source: the little angry man screaming inside his brain.

As shocking as that sounds, Twitter took delight in the opportunity to roast mediocre men. Soon users on the app responded with some hilarious memes.

    le sigh

No you’re wrong! Brother must have a super cleaning robot in his home and now expects women to act like robots as well!

Wish house chores were finished this quickly as this man assumes

    Oh, we’re laughing

Men reading this, khuda ka wasta delusion mein say niklo and come into the real world. Women aren’t robots and it’s not their job to cater to your needs every day. If you’re so desperate to marry, then learn to properly finish household chores and listen to what women have to say.

‘Sit down!’: Maryam and Khan continue Twitter phaddah

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan continued their Twitter spat over the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar on Thursday.

Calling out the Pakistan Democratic Movemnet (PDM)-led government for slaughtering the rupee and blaming the “regime change conspiracy” narrative imposed on Pakistanis by former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Khan tweeted, “Rupee slaughtered — lost over 62% or 110/$ in 11 months of PDM. This has increased public debt alone Rs 14.3 trn [trillion] & historic 75 yr high inflation 31.5%.”

He added that Pakistanis are “paying [a] heavy price of regime change conspiracy where a bunch of criminals have been foisted upon nation by ex COAS”.

Responding to Khan’s statement, Maryam snapped back at him dismissing his party for its three-year-long “incompetence”.

“Mighty audacious of u to criticize those who’re undoing yr mess created through yr ruthless plunder, incompetence, misplaced priorities, cruel deal that you struck with IMF & then its breach that plunged the country into economic turmoil,” Maryam tweeted.

Maryam then told Khan “So sit down!” in her tweet.

“And let’s not forget to thank all those for this mayhem who handpicked and fed you for four years, as well as the remnants of their influence in the judiciary that you are now banking on,” the PML-N leader tweeted adding that it won’t be allowed again.

“Won’t let that happen Insha’Allah,” Maryam added.

The two indulged in a Twitter spat after the rupee plunged by nearly Rs19 against the US dollar today ahead of the central bank’s monetary policy review and amid concerns over a stalled International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal.

Lat week, Maryam hit back at Khan on Twitter after he called her a spoilt brat in a tweet.

“Shameless & calculated attacks on SC judges by PDM & spoilt brat Maryam, nurtured on corruption money, have one purpose only – to run away from elections even by violating Constitution,” tweeted Khan.

Responding to Khan’s accusations, Maryam tweeted, “Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Your squeals are not amiss as you have been the king of conspiracies, thriving & surviving on them with the help of your Godfather Faiz & his vestiges.”

  • While Twitter praises Sar-e-Rah for encouraging empathy, Maria B claims it’s actually ‘spreading destruction’

While Twitter praises Sar-e-Rah for encouraging empathy, Maria B claims it’s actually ‘spreading destruction’

Sar-e-Rah dropped its most anticipated episode this Saturday which explored the struggles of a transgender boy who tries to gain acceptance from his family by studying hard.
The episode delved into how Sarim (played by Muneeb Butt) is bullied by his step-mother and brother a because of the fact that he is an intersex man, who is regularly pushed away from spending time with them. However, Sarim and his father have a close bond, who encourages him to work hard and is the only one who embraces his true nature rather than hiding it away.
In a scene that is gaining praises on Twitter, the father and Sarim are sitting near a beach where he teaches his son that there is no shame in wanting to be feminine, and he can choose to be whatever he likes because it won’t diminish his father’s love for him.
Prominent transgender activist Mehrub Moiz Awan praised this scene for its ‘beautiful message’.

‘What a beautiful message! Who wrote this scene?’ she wrote.

Actress Iffat Omar also sent praises to this scene

Many users praised the way this episode depicted the relationship between the father and son, as portrayed by Nabeel Zafar and Butt’s moving acting. They lauded the show for handling a tabooed in a delicate manner, and showing how important it is for parent’s to empathize with and support their children.

“The relationship between Sarang & his father is beautiful in #SarERah this week. This father is honest with his son, loves & supports him – what every child needs, but particularly those struggling against society. Nabeel Zafar & Muneeb Butt are brilliant,” one user wrote.

Another user praised how the show was uplifting the minorities that it depicted on screen:

“Best thing about #SareRah is that its not depressing. There is always hope and light at the end and thats what makes it special.”

In a time when censorship overrules freedom of thought, and many drama creators refuse to engage with the audience they are creating stories for, this user praised Sar-e-Rah for taking a bold step in crafting unique stories that tackled social issues in a sensitive but thorough manner.

#SareRah @arydigitalasia a breath of fresh air, every minute worth spent. Meticulously crafted stories reflect talent, passion and time spent to study each one. Brought alive by superb acting,a rare positive take on negative social issues, absolutely no loose ends.”

Unfortunately this message did not resonate with everyone, as harsh critics like fashion designer Maria B once more stepped up to criticize the drama for promoting vulgarity and encouraging the acceptance of the transgender community. On her Instagram stories, the fashion designer said:

“So this is how you sell your soul…well done Pakistan.

So this kid is intersex??? And instead of following sharia and getting corrective help to become male or female, his DAD is telling him to be gender fluid!!! Like transgenders.

Now will you wake up Pakistan??

Is the agenda still not clear? Lannat on all the people who sold their souls and will contribute to the destruction of our kids.”

  • Twitter users collectively agree that the chemistry in ‘Mujhe Pyar Hua Tha’ is at its peak

Twitter users collectively agree that the chemistry in ‘Mujhe Pyar Hua Tha’ is at its peak

ARY drama serial ‘Mujhay Pyar Hua Tha’ aired its 12th episode last night and Twitter users have collectively agreed that there’s no jori that deserves more praises than Maheer and Saad.
In the episode, we witness the couple begin their married life together and slowly open up to each other. What is wholesome is how despite the fact that their marriage was arranged at the last minute, Saad still assures her that he would never restrict her to living the way he wants and will respect her wishes as he did as a friend before.

We also witnessed some light husband and wife banter between the two, which has made fans declare that no one has served chemistry in the past like the way Hania Amir and Wahaj Ali are. Have they defeated ‘Humsafar’s’ long-held topslot?

We have to agree with the rest of Twitter that Saad is one of the finest male leads we have watched on television screens. A caring and compassionate man who is gentle to the women in his life? Is kind and selfless to his lover, despite the fact that she may not be on the same page as him, but promises not to impose his feelings or force her into marrying him? Respects the fact that Maheer loves someone else and assures her that he will help her, regardless of the pain he feels? Print this in history books please.

And we’re particularly marking down the days until the next episode releases because it looks like Maheer and Saad will be serving more couple goals, and keeping us singles crying in our sleep.

‘Now watch the spoilt brat checkmate you’: Maryam trades barbs on Twitter with ‘King of Conspiracies’ Khan

Senior Vice President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz hit back at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Twitter after he called her a spoilt brat in a tweet.

“Shameless & calculated attacks on SC judges by PDM & spoilt brat Maryam, nurtured on corruption money, have one purpose only – to run away from elections even by violating Constitution,” tweeted Imran Khan in the afternoon.

“By attacking SCP, they are damaging the Federation & ensuring law of jungle prevails in Pak,” he wrote.

Responding to Khan’s accusations, Maryam tweeted, “Oh, how the mighty have fallen! Your squeals are not amiss as you have been the king of conspiracies, thriving & surviving on them with the help of your Godfather Faiz & his vestiges.”

“Now watch the ‘spoilt brat’ checkmate you so Godsons & pawns like you are relegated to irrelevance,” tweeted Maryam.

On Thursday, February 23, Maryam Nawaz Sharif showed pictures of the “cabal of five” she blames for conspiring against her father Nawaz Sharif. Among the photos were two pictures of serving judges of the Supreme Court- Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mazahir Naqvi. The next day, PML-N leader and federal minister Khwaja Asif criticized the judiciary during a speech on the floor of the National Assembly.

  • PTI’s ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ begins today

PTI’s ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek’ begins today

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has announced that the party’s ‘Jail Bharo Tehreek (court arrest movement)’ is set to start today.

Taking to Twitter, Khan shared two main reasons behind starting the Jail Bharo Tehreek.

“One, it is a peaceful, non-violent protest against the attack on our constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights. We are facing sham FIRs and NAB cases, custodial torture, attacks on journalists and social media people,” wrote Khan.

Khan went on to say that the second reason is the economic meltdown brought on by a “cabal of crooks who have money laundered billions in looted wealth and gotten NROs for themselves while crushing the people, especially, the poor and the middle class, under the burden of spiralling inflation and rising unemployment.”

The former prime minister also released a video message, urging his followers to “fill up prisons and shatter the idols of fear”.

In the first phase of the movement, the party’s senior leaders — Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar — will voluntarily surrender themselves to the authorities on Tuesday.

It is unclear what offense party leaders and followers are expected to commit to initiate arrest proceedings.
