Diljit Dosanjh shares proof of Indian citizenship, requests people not to spread hate

Diljit Dosanjh has been in the news ever since he joined and voiced his support for the ongoing farmers’ protests in India. The singer-turned-actor has been actively campaigning for the farmers, urging authorities to hear their appeals.

Dosanjh also donated one crore Indian rupees to farmers after which reports emerged that the income tax department had initiated a probe into the actor’s finances. Several social media users accused him of income tax fraud and also questioned his citizenship.

To shut down rumours, Dosanjh shared the income tax certificates of gratitude that were given to him by the Indian Ministry of Finance.

“We appreciate the taxpayer, in the Platinum category, in recognition of the contribution towards building this great Nation,” the certificate reads.

The actor also requested his followers not to spread hate while sharing the picture of the certificate.

Dosanjh was earlier involved in a Twitter feud with Kangana Ranaut over the farmer’s protests. But it appears that the argument did not end there because Kangana has launched a fresh attack on him.

Responding to Dosanjh’s vacation pictures, Kangana tweeted: “Amazing, brother! After inciting farmers and applauding their decision to protest in this biting cold, you are having quite the time vacationing abroad.”

“This is what I mean when I talk about a ‘Local Revolutionary’,” she added.

Dosanjh immediately hit back at Kangana saying: “Farmers are not that naïve. They cannot be swayed or influenced by what people like you or me have to say on this issue. They have a mind of their own. And you cannot seem to stop staring at my social media posts…Punjabis are waiting for your answer. Don’t think we have forgotten about you.”

A day later, however, Asmar tweeted that the PM Office had apologized for the mistake.

  • Firdous Ashiq destroyed for saying Sharifs ‘parceling mother’s body to Pakistan through cargo’

Twitterati are training guns at Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar’s aide Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan for saying that the Sharifs were “parceling the body of their mother back to Pakistan through cargo”.

Begum Shamim Akhtar, 90, breathed her last in London on Sunday and her dead body is being brought back to Pakistan. According to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb, her funeral prayers will be offered on Saturday at the Sharif Medical City in Raiwind.

“It is painful to see how those who used chartered flights to transfer cuisines are now parceling their mother’s body back to the country through cargo,” she was heard as saying during an informal media talk.

With the government spokesperson also tweeting the same, her statement didn’t set very well with a number of netizens, who said:

Meanwhile, Qul would be held on November 29 which would be attended only by members of the Sharif family.

PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and President Shehbaz Sharif have appealed to the people and workers to offer Fateha for their mother on the day of Qul in their respective areas.

  • Sherry Rehman says the new rape ordinance makes minors ‘more vulnerable’

Sherry Rehman says the new rape ordinance makes minors ‘more vulnerable’

Senator and senior PPP leader Sherry Rehman has disapproved of the new laws against rapists approved by the cabinet, earlier this week. The new laws call for strict punishment, including chemical castration of the rapist.

Replying to The Current’s post, which includes the tally of rape cases being reported every day (acquired from various sources), Sherry expressed her displeasure over lowering the statutory age for rape to 13 from 16.

“The age of alleged ‘consent’ has been moved to 13 from 16 in the new ordinance, which is terrible,” commented the lawmaker. “How will an adolescent be responsible for ‘consent’. This makes younger children even more vulnerable.”

She also expressed her concern over the matter on Twitter.

A total of 127 rape cases have been reported from October 12 to November 27 (today).

  • Imran accuses opposition, its anti-govt rallies of ‘destroying people’s lives & livelihoods’

Imran accuses opposition, its anti-govt rallies of ‘destroying people’s lives & livelihoods’

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has said that the careless actions of the opposition alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), can result in a second lockdown for the country, and would adversely affect people’s livelihoods.

“Opposition is callously destroying people’s lives & livelihoods in their desperation to get an NRO. Let me make it clear: they can hold a million jalsas but will not get any NRO,” he tweeted.

While the premier has been against going into lockdown, he felt that the actions of the PDM and their refusal to stop their rallies would result in faster spread of the novel coronavirus, and this in turn would leave the country with no choice but to go into lockdown.

“If [coronavirus] cases continue to rise at the rate we are seeing, we will be compelled to go into complete lockdown and the PDM will be responsible for [the] consequences,” he said further.

PM Imran said that another lockdown would be terrible to the economy, which declared was “showing signs of a robust recovery”. However, he added that should the PDM continue with its actions, the government would have no choice but to impose another lockdown.

At the moment, there are a number of smart micro-lockdowns taking place across the country, where those streets with more than eight cases reported are shut down. Similarly, wedding halls, large public gatherings, and indoor events have been banned as per the official orders of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).

On Friday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had refused to grant permission for a public meeting planned by the PDM due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country.

In response to the notification, the PDM had refused to back down and claimed that this is a ploy by the ruling party to prevent the rallies from taking place.

Ikhtiar Wali, the spokesperson of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) KP chapter, had insisted that the coalition would go ahead with the rally.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, the spokesperson had said that the premier had held a rally in Swat a week ago and that the KP chief minister had held a large public gathering two days ago.

“Who did they ask for permission? And who granted them permission? So if there is no rule for the ruling party, then why is [there one] for us?” he had asked.

Separately, referring to the government as ‘Covid-18’, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz had rejected the government’s demands to postpone jalsas and public gatherings as coronavirus cases rise across the country.

“While a mask gives you protection from COVID-19, ‘Vote ko izzat do’ narrative & struggle will protect you from ‘Covid-18’ & all such future attempts, Insha’Allah. Protect yourself, protect your vote,” she tweeted.
