  • Zartaj Gul under fire for seeking credit for global ‘Climate March’

Zartaj Gul under fire for seeking credit for global ‘Climate March’

Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul has drawn ire of hundreds of activists for “taking credit for Friday’s Climate March” in various cities of Pakistan and around the world.

The minister, from her Twitter account, posted pictures of the march and wrote, “Held an engaged public awareness in Islamabad to trigger a more committed behaviour from civil society, and to affirm focus on sustainability initiatives.”

But since the march was actually a citizens-led global event organised by Climate Action Now to help stop global warming in a call answered by Pakistanis as well, Twitterati didn’t let go of Gul’s claim easy.

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) minister faced severe criticism for her claims from participants of the march, including environmentalists, journalists and lawyers, as she didn’t really have much to do with the demonstrations.

Gul’s tweet has since been deleted.

The journalist and programme host Arshad Sharif, and the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Ali Haider Zaidi are exchanging responses on Twitter after anchor Rauf Klasra shared Arshad’s talk show video about Ali Zaidi.

Arshad Sharif in his talk show said that he will reveal some inside stories about how the minister is “accommodating his and Finance Minister Hafeez Shiekh’s friends and trying to lobby with certain businessman”.

Ali Haider later replied to the tweet by saying, “I’m waiting for the film from OUR friend “Arshad” as well! Both friends only showing trailers!”.

Soon after the minister’s reply, Arshad stepped into the fight and said, “The Kachra King was a good movie. Abhi film Baqi hai meray dost. Why the panic? Ali Zaidi Kay dost mahaan! Zardari kay dost chor? What’s this logic?”.

Ali Zaidi then replied and requested Arshad to do a live show with him, where he can ask all the questions he wants on live TV.

Arshad came back and replied with, “But please tell how your friends are Mahaan & Zardari’s friends are Chor? Why Imran Khan admonished you? Hold a press conference and answer that Minister”.

The minister then wrote, “by the Grace of Almighty I was given a desk thumping applause in the cabinet meeting held on Sept 3rd 2019. Allah Karim”.

  • Twitter spat after Mazari ‘refuses’ to appear in Geo News show

Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari and Geo news channels programme host Shahzeb Khanzada are exchanging responses on Twitter, right after the minister refused to come on the anchor’s show.

The minister yesterday wrote on her Twitter account that “Shahzeb Khanzada’s man messaged me to invite me for the show, adding that, “I, unfortunately, was committed elsewhere! To then go on TV and say I refused to come is an absolute lie. Unfortunate for him to have distorted things [sic]”.

To which the official account of Geo’s Shahzeb show “GeoASKKS” shared a screenshot of a conversation with Shireen Mazari, in which they invited her on their show and the minister refused to come.

Shireen Mazari has now again responded to the tweet and wrote: “I specifically asked available for what and said not available for TV show – sometimes one gets requests for comment on an issue for print also”.

“Anyhow I guess they think it will add the spice they need so I can’t stop them!”, the minister added.

  • Twitter CEO’s hacked account sends racist tweets

Twitter CEO’s hacked account sends racist tweets

The account of Twitter Chief Executive Jack Dorsey was hacked,
sending public tweets and retweets including racial slurs and curse words to 4
million followers before Twitter secured the account.

     The offensive tweets and
retweets were deleted less than an hour after the incident. The social media
company said the phone number associated with his account was compromised due
to a security oversight by the mobile provider.

“This allowed an unauthorized person to compose and send tweets via text message from the phone number. That issue is now resolved.” the company said. There was no indication that Twitter’s systems had been compromised, it added.

One of the tweets from the hacked account said Nazi leader Adolf
Hitler was innocent, while others contained derogatory comments about black
people and Jews. There was also a tweet suggesting there was a bomb at
    Twitter’s headquarters.

This was not the first time that Dorsey’s Twitter account has been hacked. His account was compromised in 2016 by a group that also hacked the Twitter accounts of Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Twitter shares were down less than 1% in after-hours trade
    following the hack.

  • Yuvraj Singh’s response to Shoaib Akhtar’s tweet will crack you up

Yuvraj Singh’s response to Shoaib Akhtar’s tweet will crack you up

Former Indian cricketing star Yuvraj Singh’s hilarious response to former Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar’s tweet, wherein he had criticised England’s Jofra Archer, has gone viral over the internet.

As per the details, Akhtar recently slammed Archer when the latter’s bouncer left Australian batsman Steve Smith rolling on the ground.

He was seen sharing a laugh with English wicketkeeper Jos Buttler after Smith suffered a nasty blow to his head on day four of the 2nd Ashes Test at Lord’s on Sunday.

Being a paceman himself, Akhtar criticised Archer over his reaction and tweeted:

However, Akhtar’s reaction was met with a hilarious tweet by Yuvraj Singh, who wrote, “Yes you did! But your actual words were, hope you are alright mate cause there are a few more coming”.

This isn’t the first time that the cricketing legends have passed wacky comments on each other’s tweets.

In 2017, Akhtar had shared an inspirational quote by WWE icon and film star, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson:

Reacting to the tweet, Singh had tweeted in Punjab:

“Sounds good, but where are you headed for [some] welding job?”

  • PM Imran unfollows Hamid Mir on Twitter, journalist says he’s ‘honoured’

PM Imran unfollows Hamid Mir on Twitter, journalist says he’s ‘honoured’

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has unfollowed veteran journalist and analyst Hamid Mir on Twitter, a development that Mir says is no less than an “honour”.

The episode that follows Mir’s anti-government tirade ever since his interview of arrested former president Asif Ali Zardari was taken off the air, has left the micro-blogging website divided as people argue if it proves the premier’s “inability to take criticism”.

It surfaced on social media on Monday evening through an account called Siasat Bot that keeps track of the Twitter handles of major politicians and political parties.

Earlier, Mir’s video had also gone viral on social media wherein he demanded his arrest which was termed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters as propaganda against the government under the guise of freedom of media.

Following this, supporters of the ruling PTI had been carrying out a campaign against the journalist who has now been unfollowed by the premier on Twitter.

PM Imran reportedly had 19 followers before clicking the “unfollow” button on Mir. The 18 accounts that he still follows include those of organisations that he himself heads, such as the PTI, Shaukat Khanum Hospital and Namal University.

The other accounts he follows include that belonging to his party’s senior leaders.

Mir himself took to Twitter to indirectly address the development. Retweeting an old post, he shared how “he had become unfavorable to PTI after he started criticising them”.

Speaking to a private news website, Mir said that he was “honoured” to be unfollowed by the chief executive of the country.

  • ‘Jang/Geo journalists forced to deactivate Twitter accounts’

‘Jang/Geo journalists forced to deactivate Twitter accounts’

At least three journalists affiliated with the Jang/Geo Media Group have allegedly been forced to deactivate their Twitter accounts, Urdu News reporter Waseem Abbasi has claimed.

According to Abbasi, Wajih Sani, Umar Cheema and Azaz Syed “suddenly and suspiciously” deactivated their accounts “amid concerns about increasing censorship in the country”.

In a subsequent tweet, the journalist claimed that all three were safe and had “only been asked to deactivate their Twitter accounts”. He, however, did not disclose who exactly had “asked” the three journalists to deactivate the accounts.

With the claim taking over the micro-blogging website by storm, Wajih Sani returned to tweet, “Thank you for all your love. I am perfectly fine.”

Twitter handles of both Azaz Syed and Umar Cheema, on the other hand, remain deactivated. Meanwhile, it is being speculated that the journalists have been forced to deactivate the accounts by their employer.

None of the journalists have confirmed or denied it.

  • Private bank fires employee for abusing journalist on Twitter

Private bank fires employee for abusing journalist on Twitter

A private bank has fired an employee for abusing journalist Hasan Zaidi during a Twitter spat earlier this week.

As per the details, the bank’s Financial Reporting Unit head Fazeel Tajammul was fired after Zaidi reported him for abusing.

Tagging the bank in his tweets with screenshots of Tajammul’s abusive remarks, Zaidi had urged the bank to take action against him.

Zaidi also shared multiple similar tweets by the bank employee, which took the micro-blogging website by storm with people urging the bank to sack Tajammul.

The campaign followed an official statement from the bank, wherein it announced having taken the “appropriate action” against Tajammul.

Meanwhile, Twitterati are criticising Zaidi as well as the bank for the move, calling it unfair.  They allege that the journalist “used his influence to get Tajammul sacked”.

Some are also seeking Zaidi’s removal for some of his abusive remarks.
