Tom Curran’s tussle with umpire costs him dearly

English cricketer Tom Curran’s tussle with an umpire on the field has cost him dearly. A video recently went viral in which Tom was seen misbehaving with the umpire.

Tom Curran has now been banned for four matches in the Big Bash League (BBL) for misbehaving and disobeying the umpire’s instructions.

The incident occurred before the match between the Sydney Sixers and the Hobart Hurricanes on December 11 when Tom Curran did not follow the umpire’s instructions not to run on the wicket in practice.

For the first time, the fourth umpire warned him not to run on the wicket, but when Tom started to do the same for the second time, the umpire stood in the way and stopped him. However, Tom ran towards the umpire and then walked out of the pitch. The umpire expressed anger at this, at which point Tom Curran responded rudely to him.

The incident happened on Thursday after which the cricketer was handed a four-match ban by Cricket Australia.

Under this punishment, Curran, who represents Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash, will not be able to play the next four matches on behalf of his team.

Curran will also play for Islamabad United in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9.

  • PM Khan says PTI more popular now, like in the 2014 dharna, all thanks to the Opposition

PM Khan says PTI more popular now, like in the 2014 dharna, all thanks to the Opposition

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan Friday said that institutions are neutral in this political fight between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government and the Opposition.

The premier made these comments during a meeting he had with senior journalists.

“The PM was confident that he would defeat the no-trust motion,” said Geo News anchor Shahzad Iqbal.

“Since the Opposition had submitted the no-trust motion, our popularity has increased manifold, the same we had during our 2014 dharna,” said PM Khan.

“Some people feared that the popularity of PTI was declining but it has increased in the last two weeks. A massive rally will be held on March 27 that would show how popular is our party. Those who think our government will be toppled should change their mind,” said the premier.

“I think the umpire is neutral and the Opposition has brought this no-trust motion to save their corruption and especially the cases of Shehbaz Sharif,” the PM was quoted by the anchor.

  • Video of umpire Aleem Dar stopping Dahani’s celebration goes viral

Video of umpire Aleem Dar stopping Dahani’s celebration goes viral

A video of umpire Aleem Dar failing to stop Multan Sultans’ fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani from celebrating a wicket against Quetta Gladiators during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022 fixture in Lahore is viral.

It is pertinent to mention here that the right-arm pacer bagged two wickets in their one-sided fixture.

The video sees Shahnawaz Dahani dismissing Naseem Shah. Just when he took off, Aleem Dar came in front of the pacer to stop him.

However, Aleem’s efforts went in vain and he was seen smiling at the end.

Netizens came up with some hilarious comments about the funny moment.

While sharing his thoughts on Twitter, Dahani wrote: “Thinking of giving a try for 400 meters in Paris @Olympics 2024. @Balochbolt what do you say??”

Dahani bagged two wickets and conceded 22 runs from his three overs. All of his dismissals were clean bowled.

He is at sixth position in the list of highest wicket-takers in this year’s competition with 12 breakthroughs from eight games at a bowling average of 22.00.

Meanwhile, Multan beat Quetta Gladiators by 117 runs later in the game.

  • Daniil Medvedev trolls crowd at the Australian Open

Daniil Medvedev trolls crowd at the Australian Open

After battling verbally with the chair umpire, crowd and even ball kids during his Australian Open final, Daniil Medvedev wasn’t done.

The Russian was seen mouthing the words ‘boring’ while standing in the background early in the trophy ceremony after the men’s singles final.

Tennis Australia chair Jayne Hrdlicka was delivering the opening speech after Rafael Nadal’s five-set win when she began to address Medvedev.

Medvedev didn’t appear to enjoy the message, pulling faces and turning to the side to say “boring” to no one in particular.

He then repeated it before muttering something that couldn’t easily be lip-read but quite clearly wasn’t positive.

The Russian star, while thanking Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley, said: “I want to thank Tennis Australia, especially Craig. I think tournament director is a tough job, and this year, you will be able to tell me if it was the toughest in your career. I think you are an amazing tournament director, and I hope you stay at least 15 years that I am here, or maybe 10 years.”

By tough, he most likely meant Novak Djokovic’s visa fiasco.

Medvedev did not have a great time with the crowd of Australia. In his speech after losing the match, he talked about many things but did not thank the Australian Open crowd.

While talking about the reality of the most testing loss of his career, having already thanked his team during the speech, Medvedev appeared to be building up to thank the crowd, beginning, “Last but not least”, before saying, “just wanted to thank my team again.”

    Twitterati reacted to his trolling.

Even in the post-match media talk, Medvedev was lamenting about crowd’s behaviour. He said: “Before Rafa serves even in the fifth set, there would be somebody like one guy screaming, ‘C’mon Daniil’ but a thousand people would be ‘Tsss, Tsss, Tsss’. That sound. It’s disappointing, it’s disrespectful. I’m not sure I’m going to want to play tennis.”

Earlier in the semi-final, Medvedev got involved into a heated exchange with match referree, calling him ‘stupid’ and ‘bad’.

  • Umpire signals wide with his legs, video goes viral

Umpire signals wide with his legs, video goes viral

A video of an umpire has gone viral on social media in which he can be seen signalling wide with his legs.

Taking to Twitter, former English cricketer Michael Vaughn shared the video, saying: “Surely we need to see this chap join the ICC Elite panel.”

A Twitter user also shared another video of the same umpire under Vaughn’s tweet in which he is signalling for a boundary.

In Maharashtra’s Purandar Premier League 2021, when a bowler bowled a wide delivery, the umpire left everyone in splits with his extremely unique way of signalling. Contrary to the normal way of giving the ‘wide’ decision by stretching the arms, the umpire did something extremely outrageous. He turned back, performed a headstand and stretched his legs instead to make the signal.

The players on the field were also captured laughing as it was something that was probably happening on the field of cricket for the first time ever. “Yeh kya kar diya! Yeh wide ka style dekhiye, yeh bhi kamaal kar rahe hai, inka bhi naya andaaz hai. (What did he do? Look at this style of giving a wide. He is doing wonders, he has invented a new style),” the commentators said while describing the incident.

The umpire eventually made sure that he would get up and make the wide signal with his hands as well so that everyone gets to know what the decision was.

Cricket umpire dies after being hit by a ball

A cricket umpire has died one month after being hit on the head by a ball during a domestic match, BBC has reported.

    Mr. Williams was supervising a
Pembrokeshire County Division 2 match between Pembroke and Narbeth when he was
    hit by a ball.

He was taken to a hospital and was later rushed to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff when he was in an induced coma. Williams was transferred to Withybush Hospital in Haverford west on August 1 where he died two weeks later.

    After the tragic death of
Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes in 2014, safety concerns in cricket have
been under surveillance. Hughes was hit on the head by a Sean Abbott bouncer
during a native game. He went into a coma and never recovered consciousness.
