    Expert’s daughter invades BBC interview, asks ‘Mummy, what’s his name?’

    With work from home becoming the new normal, parents across the globe now have a double job: they have to balance their work and look after their kids, all at the same time.

    A working parent, Dr Clare Wenham was recently live on BBC from home discussing the lockdown situation in England and how staying indoors is a learning process for locals amid the outbreak of the virus.

    That’s when her daughter Scarlett interrupted the interview and started pestering her mother to help her choose the best shelf to display her art.

    BBC presenter Christian Fraser stepped in and asked Dr Clare: “What’s your daughter called?”

    Wenham replied, “Her name is Scarlett.”

    Fraser told Scarlett that her art looked better on the lower shelf. In response, Scarlett asked her mother: “Mummy, what’s his name?” to which Fraser politely said, “My name is Christian.”

    The entire episode was recorded and shared on BBC UK’s official Twitter handle. People on the internet found the entire episode very cute.

    Britain’s Queen Elizabeth was photographed riding a 14-year-old Fell pony in Windsor Home Park as the country eases lockdown to control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

    The Queen has been living at Windsor Castle, west of London, during the lockdown with her 98-year-old husband Prince Philip.

    As per reports, Windsor is said to be the Queen’s favourite royal residence and the 94-year-old regularly rides in the grounds of Windsor.

    She has issued several rallying messages to the nation from there, including televised addresses that have been a rarity during her 68-year reign.

    The last public picture of the Queen was taken as she was driven away from Buckingham Palace to her Windsor Castle home.

    274,762 cases have been reported in the UK so far and a lockdown has been imposed to curb the virus spread.

    British-Pakistani woman becomes Britain’s first hijab-wearing judge

    British-Pakistani Raffia Arshad has become the first-ever, hijab-wearing deputy district judge in the United Kingdom.

    After completing her law degree from Oxford Brookes University, Arshad worked as a barrister at a firm specializing in family law. She has also written a book titled Islamic Family Law.

    As per reports, she is the first in her family to go to university. 

    Speaking to a private media outlet the newly-appointed judge said: “My appointment is a celebration for all Muslim women. I am delighted that I have broken the glass ceiling for many more capable Muslim women.

    “At a time when everyone is facing uncertainty and unprecedented challenges, I urge everyone to rekindle their dreams and pursue them.”

    Arshad credited her parents and mentioned how their prayers have helped her in her success. She said she felt proud of being counted as an outstanding Pakistani in the west.

    Arshad’s husband is a doctor and a religious scholar, who completed a diploma in Islamic jurisprudence and coaching while working as a barrister.

    The further said: “I am a court-appointed expert on matters of Islamic family law and have authored many publications, including a textbook that is used by other judges worldwide. I have been invited to Germany and America to speak on Islamic family law.”

    Breaking stereotypes, she highlighted how women could follow their religion and also succeed in their careers at the same time.

    Pakistan delivers flowers to 10 Downing Street as British PM fights coronavirus

    Pakistan High Commission in London on Tuesday delivered flowers to 10 Downing Street, the official residence of British Prime Minister (PM) Boris Johnson who was admitted to the hospital two days ago after testing positive for the coronavirus, The Guardian reported.

    Johnson tested positive for the virus on Mar 27, following which he went into self-isolation at his official residence. On Sunday, he was admitted to an undisclosed hospital in London and a day later shifted to the intensive care unit as, reports said, his condition worsened.

    On Tuesday, PM Imran Khan also wrote to his British counterpart, wishing him “earliest recovery” and “good health”.

    According to a statement issued by the PM’s Office (PMO), the premier, in the letter, underscored the importance of Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) working together to overcome the formidable challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

  • Pakistani couple distributes free coronavirus prevention kits in UK

    A Pakistani couple living in the United Kingdom is trying to keep those around them safe amid the coronavirus outbreak. 

    As per reports, the couple, who run a little confectionary shop in the Scottish town of Falkirk, is not only distributing prevention kits in their area but is also preparing those kits. They are distributing the kits free of charge to every elderly person walking inside their shop.

    Jawad and his wife both also make special efforts to hand-deliver kits at the doorsteps of the elderly living in their surroundings.

    Scotland is the second biggest province of the United Kingdom where the reported cases of coronavirus have surged to 85.

    Earlier in the day, a newborn was diagnosed with the disease, making him/her to be the youngest person in the United Kingdom (UK) to have caught coronavirus.

    North Middlesex University Hospital said two patients had tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, which has killed more than 5,000 people worldwide.

    British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Dr Christian Turner has shared that he is a huge fan of Karachi Biryani and Lahori food. He expressed his love for Pakistan’s foods and cities in Urdu that is quite impressive and interesting. 

    In an interview with Hamid Mir, Dr Turner said, “Well, I should say, first of all, Pakistan bohat khoobsurat hai, Meri Urdu kharab hai. Thodi jaanta hun.” 

    Turner agreed with the old saying “Lahore Lahore Hai (Lahore is Lahore)” and said that all he had done for three days in Lahore was eat. The representative revealed he was fond of Karachi’s biryani. He said it was “Bohat mazedaar (very delicious)”.

    UK permits its citizens to travel to Pakistan’s northern areas

    The United Kingdom has permitted its citizens to travel to tourist spots in Pakistan’s northern areas, due to the better security situation of the country.

    The announcement was made by the British High Commissioner to Islamabad Dr. Christian Turner. 

    This is the first main update in the UK travel advisory since 2015 following the return of British Airways to Pakistan in June 2019 and the royal visit of Prince William and Kate Middleton in October 2019.

    The announcement is the “result of a comprehensive review of UK travel advice for Pakistan, based on a wide-ranging assessment of the country’s security situation,” reads a statement published on the British government website.

    “Among other changes, the advice now allows for travel by road to the North of Pakistan as well as the Kalesh and Bamboret Valleys.”

    High Commissioner Turner appreciated the Government of Pakistan for providing a better security environment over the past years.

    “Following my arrival in December 2019, I made this review of the travel advice a priority. I am delighted that British nationals will be able to see more of what Pakistan has to offer,” he said.

    More than 1,000 women will be running for elections in the United Kingdom in the general elections on December 12. Out of the 1,000, 23 women have Pakistani or Kashmiri roots.

    Naz Shah is a Labour Party MP. She was appointed to a junior Shadow Ministerial role as  Shadow Minister of State for Women and Equalities.

    Nine of the Pakistani origin women are running for a parliamentary seat for the Labour Party. Three out of the nine women – Yasmin Qureshi, Naz Shah and Shabana Mahmood – were members of the previous two Parliaments.

    Yasmin Qureshi is with the Labour Party. She headed the criminal legal section of the UN Mission in Kosovo
    Shabana Mahmood is a British Labour Party politician and barrister, who has been the Member of Parliament since 2010

    Five Pakistani origin women are running for a parliamentary seat on a Conservative Party ticket. One of them – Nusrat Ghani – has been elected twice before and was also a minister in the previous two cabinets.

    Nusrat Ghani, also known as Nus Ghani is with the Conservative Party.  She currently serves as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Transport and Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury

    Two candidates – Irum Altaf Kiyani and Humera Kamran are contesting as independents.
