‘Apologizing for wearing choli was mistake’; Defiant Ushna Shah slams trolls

Ushna Shah has never shied away from speaking her mind, never allowing trolls to dictate anything to her. If social media creeps think they can troll her into changing who she is, they’ve got another thing coming.

On Wednesday Ushna posted a video of herself with the caption, “@livgolf_league was such a vibe! They’re really on to something. Got to watch some incredible golf, made some lovely friends & spectated elite #currypower ! ⛳”

In the video, the actress was seen wearing shorts, accompanied by her husband. The clip sparked a wave of trolling from social media judgemental users.

In response to the backlash, Ushna took to her X (formerly Twitter) account and defiantly wrote, “A girl from a liberal background, who grew up in Canada & wore shorts etc with her friends is now married to a white man who is from a similar background & doesn’t care if she shows her legs when they’re abroad..and her Pakistani audience looses their minds. ”

Refusing to give an inch to internet creeps, she said, “The biggest mistake I ever made was apologising for wearing a red choli on my wedding & dancing, to the same people who will drool over the Nargis Fakhris of the world (also Pakistani, also Muslim) but will annihilate us for having a liberal upbringing that differs from theirs. I’m in my “over it” era. Go watch some item numbers & keep searching for po*n, I’m too old to cater to your hypocrisy, I choose to live my life & be happy. ”

Many people have spoken out in favor of the actress and her right to dress however she prefers.

Ushna Shah loves Sharmin Segal’s performance in ‘Heeramandi’

Actress Ushna Shah has come to the defense of Sharmin Segal, who faced criticism for her acting in the web series ‘Heeramandi’. Shah posted a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) writing, “Sharmin Segal underplayed Alamzeb but only slightly, which seems to be difficult to digest for an audience used to be a more dramatic style. The character would have been butchered had she over-played it, it would have become generic.”

“She mastered the Urdu dialect better than most Hindi speaking actors & the grain in her voice was spectacular,” Shah added.
Looking at British actor Jason Shah’s performance, who played Alastair Cartwright in the series, Ushna wrote, “The real tragedy is Cartwright not having an English accent; he was playing a British coloniser! Forget Received Pronunciation, he didn’t even bother forging a modern Brit accent? Even the English speaking Nawaabs should have had a trans-Atlantic-ish speak, similar to Jinnah, Gandhi, Nehru etc.” She added the hashtags ‘Heeramandi’ and ‘Sharmin Segal’.
Sharmin Segal is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece.

The web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which co-stars Segal alongside Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh in major roles, as well as Farida Jalal, Fardeen Khan, Shekhar and Adhyayan Suman, and Taha Shah, is available on Netflix.

Ushna Shah wedding style: Why did she choose traditional red?

Ushna Shah and her husband recently made a guest appearance on Shaan E Suhoor, hosted by Nida Yasir, where they shared insights into their wedding choices. During the show, a fan question asking about the significance of the vibrant red shade in Ushna’s bridal attire and whether it was her preference or her husband’s.

In response, Ushna Shah said , “I didn’t want a surprise, so our bridal shoot couldn’t happen as planned. We hadn’t met before, and he saw me for the first time walking in. So, we opted for Nikkah during the wedding. It’s what I wanted because I felt like I’ve had enough weddings in my dramas, and I’ve worn pastel color and all. I wanted something from the old days, a deep red. Warda Salim didn’t make it too bold, which was good, but I wanted the traditional red outfit from our grandmothers’ era. I wanted it as red as possible because my walima outfit was white. His (husband’s) reaction, seen on our Instagram, was just ‘Wow.’ He said, ‘This is the most beautiful thing you wore.’
