  • Olympian Talha Talib tested positive in dope test, likely to get ban

    Olympian weightlifter, Talha Talib has tested positive for taking prohibited substances to improve performance. The tests were carried out under the authority of the International Testing Agency along with International Weightlifting Federation on Friday. It was conducted in two cities Gujranwala and Lahore for all Pakistani weightlifters.

    According to the reports, some substances of prohibited drugs were found in the blood of three weightlifters including Talha Talib. He has been banned from taking participating in the Birmingham Commonwealth games and the Olympics. In addition, Talha Talib could a face ban for at least four years.

    It is to be mentioned here that Talha Talib won the country’s first-ever medal at the World Weightlifting Championship last year in Uzbekistan by winning a Bronze in the snatch event in the 67kg category.

    He has come into the limelight when he missed two points to get a medal for Pakistan in the last Olympics. Many celebrities and politicians lauded his debut performance in Olympics.

    Pakistan’s young weightlifter Talha Talib has won the country’s first ever medal at the World Weightlifting Championship on Friday by winning a Bronze at the snatch event in the 67kg category.

    In a message on Twitter after his victory, Talib said he hoped to win a gold medal for the country soon too. While he also thanked everyone who supported him.

    The 22-year-old weightlifter from Gujranwala managed to create history for Pakistan in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

    He lifted 143kg in his first attempt in the snatch event in the 67kg competition. His following attempts of lifting 146kg and 147kg were unsuccessful, but the lift of 143kg in the first attempt was enough for him to secure a medal for Pakistan.

    Last year, Talha won the Bronze medal in same category at the Asian Championship. The performance earned him a place at Tokyo Olympics, where he finished fifth.

    The performance at the Olympics brought him into the limelight and the country’s sports authorities assured him full support for future events.

    Several notables, including Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Government of Punjab Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti, congratulated the athlete on accomplishing the feat.

    The United States (US) disclosed a list of gifts received by officials from foreign states and dignitaries, which included names of not only the president but also the vice president, senior advisors, secretaries, senators, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agents, army officials, judges, and other workers of government departments, reported The News.

    A gift given to former President Donald Trump by Pakistan along with two gifts from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 are also shown in the information released by the US.

    Donald Trump received the most gifts during 2019 out of all other officials of the US government. The former US president declared a total of 23 gifts that he received in 2019 worth $52,626. Trump, according to the list of recorded gifts, did not retain a single gift for himself and rather disposed of all of them to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

    Pakistan gifted Donald Trump a silk carpet that had a value of $3,000 in 2019. This was the only gift that America received from Pakistan in 2019. Whereas, two gifts from India were sent, which were delivered by Indian Prime Minister Modi himself on his visit to the US. One was a sculpture with a value of $970 given to Donald Trump and the other was a candle holder, which cost $650 and was given to Jared Kushner, senior advisor.

    Ashraf Ghani gifted a handmade carpet to Trump and Lapis Bowl and Lapis Tray to Michael R Pompeo, which was valued at almost $10,000. Two carpets were gifted by the president of Uzbekistan, which cost over $20,000. The president of Egypt gave Donald Trump a frame of his image, which cost over $5,000. Likewise, the Ameer of Qatar gave Trump a statue made of emerald, onyx, gold and diamond worth thousands of dollars.

    Pakistan, Uzbekistan to make film on first Mughal emperor Zaheer-ud-din Babar: PM Khan

    Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Thursday that Pakistan and Uzbekistan will jointly make a film on the first Mughal emperor, Zaheer-ud-din Babar, in order to let the youth know about the connection between the two countries.

    As per reports, this decision has been made to educate the young people of both the countries of the shared heritage between the two nations.

    “[It] is extremely exciting that we have decided now to make a film on the first of the great Mughals, Zaheer-ud-din Babar,” the premier said in a joint presser with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

    PM Khan said that the Mughal dynasty ruled India for three centuries, adding that the region at that time was considered as “one of the richest” places in the world.

    “I think the young people in Uzbekistan and Pakistan must know this connection that stayed for hundreds of years between this part of the world and our part of the world.”

    “We hope that this will be the beginning of a strong cultural exchange between the two countries. As our countries get closer, I will introduce cricket to the people of Uzbekistan,” said the prime minister.

    Speaking on the occasion, President Mirziyoyev threw weight behind PM Imran’s opinion, adding that the youth of Uzbekistan should know about the heritage of Babar’s dynasty.

    “We should say that this is just the beginning. I look forward to visiting Pakistan in order to see those very places that have the touch of our ancestors and to see the life in Pakistan and people of Pakistan,” said the Uzbek president.

    Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday, while speaking to the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum, said: ” I am a student of history. So I know probably more history of Uzbekistan than most people in Uzbekistan.”
