Cambodia warns students of ‘losing dignity’ on Valentine’s Day

Authorities in Cambodia have issued a stern rebuke to students to avoid “inappropriate activities” this Valentine’s Day, warning them of the perils of “losing dignity”.

Valentine’s Day has become popular among young people in many Southeast Asian countries in recent years, with bunches of red roses and heart-shaped chocolates popping up in stores and on street stalls in the days leading up to February 14.

While some might see the annual celebration of love as a bit of harmless fun, the Cambodian government — which has form for issuing dire warnings about the pitfalls of young love and premarital sex — is rattled.

The education ministry issued a directive to public and private schools late on Tuesday ordering them to “take measures to prevent inappropriate activities on Valentine’s Day”.

“It is not tradition of our Khmer nationality,” the statement said.

The ministry also noted that the event had made “a small number of youths… forget about studying and lose the dignity of themselves and their families”.

The Ministry of Culture called on authorities and parents “to remind children to use the day in line with the beautiful Khmer tradition for the sake of their honour and dignity”.

And the ministry of Women’s affairs weighed in, saying some people “misunderstand the meaning of February 14”.

Cambodia’s National AIDS Authority warned that AIDS was still spreading and that some people, particularly youth, used Valentine’s Day to “show love that leads to possible sexual intercourse”.

Last year, there were 7,600 people living with AIDS in Cambodia, including 1,400 new cases, it said.

About 42 percent of the new cases are youths aged between 15 and 24, the authority said.

Social conservatives see Valentine’s Day as a foreign import that represents a moral threat to traditional Buddhist beliefs.

Cambodian women in particular are under intense social pressure to retain their virginity until marriage.

The lonely hearts residing in General Luna townhall in the Quezon Province will now recieve three times their normal wage if they are able to prove that they were single for the past three years.

Eternal bachelor Mayor Matt Florido announced that he would be giving extra pay to all of his staff to show gratitude for all the extra work they put in and prove that “someone loves them”. This is the third time he is taking such an initiative.

Speaking to AFP, Florido said that he could empathize with how singles felt about this day, since he has been single himself since his birth.
“I know what they’re going through today, I feel for them.. On Valentine’s Day no one will give them chocolates, flowers … so we thought of giving them this kind of incentive so they can also feel someone cares for them, someone loves them.”

Florido also added that the staff members who were already romantically attached did not object to their single colleagues getting more pay:

“Maybe they understand what the single people are going through,” he said.

  • Want to woo a woman? Here is some advice from male leads of Pakistani dramas!

Want to woo a woman? Here is some advice from male leads of Pakistani dramas!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, your amma jee’s earnest khuwaishien about turning her into a dadi maa, and those bachiyan you stop to hoot at aren’t impressed by how much of a hero you can be. It’s clear that you don’t have a date because more women are rejecting entitled, selfish brats because do khori paisay kya kama liye, ab kehti hain they don’t want a man in their lives!
Clearly dear reader, you have tried everything to impress her but have no chick to take to Hooters while Beena is out of town. So we are ready to help because we know how hard it is to get home and no live in maid is around to make you food and treat you like chota sardar. The best place to go for advice is definitely Pakistani dramas and their never ending tips on how to create the perfect male heroes. Whenever drama creators and screenwriters have been questioned about why they chose to consult no real woman, and included domestic abuse in their dramas, their response was that this is what society has always favored!
So we have, with our superior mind and years of journalism experience, decided to write down some of the popular dramas released over the last few years, and the stellar advice they offer to men across Pakistan whose hairlines keep receding as Bisma doesn’t answer their 1999th hookup call.

1 Introduce yourselves by demanding her to call out your name repeatedly

Tricky thing but follow our steps closely because you want to ensure she likes no one else but you. You’ve met the dream girl and want her to like you back, but how do you do so? As Danish Taimoor splendidly shows us, kidnap her dad and then when she calls you in tears begging for help, demand that she repeatedly say your name. Over and over again. That will put her in a trance, she will wake up and go around thinking only of you, and you alone.

2 To develop a deeper bond between the two of you, pick someone who’s your cousin

You’re hitting 39 soon and you don’t know when will you stop being a chichora. Dramas say you should pick a girl who is naive and won’t be able to see the real douchebag that you are. That’s why you should pick your cousin. She can easily be pressurized by her parents to date you, and even marry you in the near future because otherwise their daughter’s honor might go to shambles. Ignore the cries of those rabid feminists telling you that intermarrying cousins is medically questionable, especially when it involves a child! She won’t protest regarding how much she has to clean up after you, or has to literally take care of the rest of your family as well!

3 Swoon tip: neglect all of her need’s and accuse her of being a drama queen!

Among the many things men are clueless about when it comes to dating, is not knowing how to make a woman feel special. Many men are consistently trying to figure out the ways they can remind a woman they love that they think she’s special and value her existence. So here’s a tip: gaslight her when she comes to you with a problem. Is she spiraling due to a panic attack and can’t breathe? Stand there and accuse her of faking it all and then go on your day pretending what you saw never happened. After all, for any relationship to become successful, a period of hardship and torture is quite important!

4 Refuse to- and we emphasize this so much – keep refusing to take no for an answer

Anything that a woman says after meeting you should be a hint that she wants you. If she’s complaining about having no food, it secretly means she wants to cook food for you. If she’s asking about the time, it secretly means time to go home with you. So don’t mistrust what your gut is telling you, and keep letting her know that you can hear her inner voice, which she can’t. If she tells you she doesn’t like you, refuse to let her go and keep pressurizing her to listen to her desperate inner voice wanting to be with you! Akhir kaar there is nothing wrong with you! So why would she reject you?

5 Lastly, to seal this joori into a lifetime commitment, put a gun to your head so she quickly agrees to marry you.

The day is ending, you know you just met her and don’t know anything except for her phone number and where she goes to study. But you think you have found the perfect live-in nanny that can cook you and keep up with your mummy’s constant nagging so it’s only right that you drop a proposal now! She’ll say no at first because obviously, she doesn’t know that she wants to marry you as well. So to make it quick, and actually get her to marry you- hold a gun to your head, and start screaming that you’ll shoot yourself if she doesn’t say yes. Start counting down from ten, and she’ll definitely say she want’s to marry you. It’s a win-win!

  • Mooove over men! This Valentine’s day, India wants people to hug cows

Mooove over men! This Valentine’s day, India wants people to hug cows

It looks like the lonely singles in India will have something to do other than side-glaring at all the happy couples out there.
An appeal signed by The Animal Welfare Board of India has encouraged people to hug cows on Valentine’s Day, suggesting that it will bring about “emotional richness” and “increase individual and collective happiness.”

Calling cows the backbone of Indian culture and rural economy, the organisation has emphasized how the mammal sustains life, represents cattle wealth and biodiversity. “It is known as ‘kamdhenu’ and ‘gaumata’ because of its nourishing nature like a mother, the giver of all providing [sic] riches to humanity.
Vedic traditions are almost on the verge of extinction due to the progress of west [sic] culture over time. The dazzle of western civilization has made our physical culture and heritage almost forgotten.
In view of the immense benefits of the cow, hugging [the] cow will bring emotional richness hence will increase our individual and collective happiness. Therefore, all the cow lovers may also celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day, keeping in mind the importance of the mother cow and making life happy and full of positive energy. This [was] issued with the approval of competent authority and on the direction of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.”

As soon as this news began circulating on social media, #CowHugDay started to trend both in Pakistan and India, and for once users from both countries began to bond over the pointlessness of politics.

  • Tabish Hashmi set to become a politician, will join a party in near future

Tabish Hashmi set to become a politician, will join a party in near future

Host and comedian Tabish Hashmi has announced in a recent interview that he will join politics in the next 2-3 years. The Hasna Mana Hai star stated that he likes to challenge himself in life and now after carving his own niche in media, he wants to foray into a more serious profession. “People restrict themselves in terms of professional ambitions, but I don’t.”

Hashmi revealed this on a YouTube show, Foodies Carpool.

Tabish has been doing standup comedy and public speaking since 2004, his college days, but he got fame after hosting the digital show, TBH.

Hashmi recently shared pictures with his family on social media.

    Tabish Hashmi

Earlier in another interview, the comedian revealed that it was, indeed, Sharma who copied a Pakistani concept and based his show on that and it was not the other way around.

Hashmi said that it was easy for people to say that “Hasna Mana Hai” was similar to Kapil’s show as the sets of both the shows were based on cities that look like each other — Lahore and New Delhi.

“On Kapil’s show, the set depicts Delhi. Our set portrays Lahore, and both cities are identical. have been to both cities. Delhi looks like Lahore, and Lahore looks like Delhi,” said Tabish.

Tabish Hashmi accused of copying Kapil Sharma show style CB News | crazy Bollywood News Updates

Clapping back at his critics, the comedian-turned-host said that the concept of the set as well as the type of comedy projected on the show was a Pakistani concept.

“This is Umar Sharif’s concept. This is Amanullah’s concept. This is our concept,” said Tabish, adding that no one pointed out that Kapil stole Pakistan’s idea because India spent millions on it and marketed the show as if it was their original idea.

To further prove his point, Hashmi also juxtaposed Indian actor Amir Khan’s “Laal Singh Chaddha” with the Hollywood flick “Forest Gump”. He explained that millions of people would not have watched Tom Hanks’s Oscar-winning film, therefore, many would assume Amir Khan’s work was an original idea.

Tabish said the comparison was “unjust” as Kapil’s show was aired once a week, whereas his show is broadcast thrice a week with unscripted guests.

“In 2007, a show used to be aired on Geo, called “Chouraha”. It was made exactly on Sharma’s show format, but the Indian comedian’s show was introduced in 2011. No one said that Sharma copied Chauraha’s idea,” argued the comedian.

Despite the criticism, Tabish said he wanted his fans to “be by his side” as building a show was a “long haul process”. He added that he will not rest until “Hasna Mana Hai” hit its peak like his last venture.

The comedian, who has recently returned to Pakistan after living in Canada, said that it was an obvious choice for him to migrate from his homeland in the first place.

“In Pakistan, unfortunately, being rich or from the upper middle-class is not sufficient. You also need to have the ability to afford your socio-economic status,” said Tabish. He explained that when he used to live in Karachi, he could afford a car and have luxuries like air conditioners but did not have the money to maintain those things.

The comedian-turned-host said that security and lack of basic necessities was also a factor for him to take such a decision.

“There was no electricity, no safety. You need all these things [especially when] you are staying in a city like Karachi. This used to irritate me because I filed taxes, I was a law-abiding citizen, but even then, I needed to spend more on every basic need, and it made me decide that I must migrate from here,” he said.

When asked why he chose to return, Tabish simply responded by saying that he came back as he had the money to afford all those luxuries now.
