    264 shopkeepers arrested in Peshawar for overcharging

    During a three-day crackdown on racketeers in Peshawar, the district administration arrested 264 shopkeepers from various parts of the provincial capital on April 11.

    Officials of the district administration visited bazaars in, Hayatabad, Kohat Road, Interior City, Nauthia, Ring Road, Charsadda Road, Dilzak Road, University Road, GT Road, Pajagee Road, Bara Road, and other localities to examine Ramzan bazaars, along with the availability of vital food products, on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar, Shafiullah Khan.

    They investigated the quality and status of the commodities sold at Mega Malls set up as Ramazan Facilitation Counters and detained 264 profiteers from various areas. Fruit and vegetable vendors, milk vendors, butchers, grocers, and others were among those arrested. The district government has signaled that legal action may be taken against them.

    Previously, the Minister for Food, Science, and Information Technology in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Atif Khan had also directed the responsible authorities on April 8 to constantly monitor the relief provided to people by the provincial government in terms of food costs.

  • Gallup survey shows karela, baingan most unpopular vegetables

    A Gallup Pakistan survey says that eggplant  (baingan) and bitter gourd (karela)  are the most disliked vegetables.

    Gallup Pakistan Executive Director Bilal Gilani revealed the statistics on Samaa News‘ morning show ‘Naya Din’.

    He said seven percent of the respondents disliked eggplant, followed by bitter gourd and okra (bhindi) at five percent each.

    Gilani said elder people eat more vegetables compared to younger people who prefer meat and junk food.

  • Vegetable vendor arrested for selling vegetables at low rates

    A vegetable vendor in Lahore has been arrested for selling vegetables at low rates. As per details, no state-mandated price list was displayed at his shop.

    The FIR states that the vegetable vendor had been selling okra (bhindi) for Rs73 per kg instead of Rs95, tomatoes (tamatar) for Rs25 per kg instead of Rs50, eggplants (baingan) for Rs52 per kg instead of Rs60, bitter melons (karailay) for Rs52 per kg instead of Rs90, and onions (pyaaz) at Rs33 per kg instead of Rs40.

    The case was registered under the Price Control Acts 1958 and 1977 at the Raiwind City Police Station on the directions of Special Magistrate Chaudhry Kashif Bashir against the vegetable vendor, Waqas Majeed.

    Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill has urged authorities to take action against the magistrate.

    Punjab govt launches home delivery app for fruits and vegetables

    The Punjab Government, in collaboration with a private company, has introduced a home delivery system for fruits and vegetables in Multan and Rawalpindi.

    Through the app, residents of the city will be able to get fruits and vegetables delivered to their doorsteps without going to the market.

    The launch ceremony for the initiative took place at Circuit House where Chairman Non-Ministerial Standing Committee on Government Assurances, Mian Aamir Dogar, Parliamentary Secretary, Nadeem Qureshi, and Deputy Commissioner Multan were present.

    Mian Aamir Dogar hoped that the citizens will respond positively to the initiative as it is launched to make their life easier.

    Earlier, the Islamabad management had also launched a similar service for the residents from where they could order these items online at DC-approved rates.
