  • When a Mufti rapes, why do we silence the victim?

When a Mufti rapes, why do we silence the victim?

An FIR (first information report) was recently registered against Mufti Aziz-ur-Rehman of Lahore’s Jamia Manzoorul Islamia over charges of unnatural offenses (sodomy) and criminal intimidation. Mufti Aziz-ur-Rehman’s video went viral on social media in which he can be seen sexually assaulting one of his students.

The young student taped the incident on video to prove how he was being raped on a regular basis by the mufti and the madrassa administration refused to believe him when he complained about the sexual abuse. The student, who is in hiding because he has been receiving death threats from Mufti Aziz and his sons, said this had been going on for more than three years. In the disturbing video of sexual assault, the student later says that he is contemplating suicide. Mufti Aziz and his sons are on the run and have not yet been arrested.

Mufti Aziz has been expelled from the seminary and his title of a religious scholar has been stripped off by the Wafaq-ul-Madaris. When the disturbing video did the rounds on social media, only then was the matter highlighted and action taken against Mufti Aziz. The young student was able to record a video of this heinous crime but what about those students and young children who are unable to record such incidents? This is not just about seminaries but schools and other places in the country. As per Sahil, an NGO that works on child protection and child sexual abuse, 2,960 cases of child abuse were reported across Pakistan in 2020. This is just the tip of the iceberg as many cases of child abuse and sexual assaults and rape are either never reported, or the survivors’ and victims’ are blackmailed, their families pressurised. In some cases, reports indicate that the police are bribed or such cases are settled out of court even though this is not legally allowed.

We saw extreme outrage over Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai’s innocent remarks about marriage in a recent interview. The matter was even discussed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly and she was asked to clarify her comments. Where is this indignation now in the case of Mufti Aziz? Why are we not outraged that a young boy was repeatedly raped by his teacher? Why are we not talking about how such cases are overlooked most of the time and how our society reacts to fake videos of Aurat March versus a legit video of sexual abuse? Even with the evidence out in public, we saw some sickening remarks of how the ‘act’ was ‘consensual’ because the student did not ‘resist’ it. Such insinuations are extremely disturbing because the student has made it quite clear in his statement how he was forced to go through this abuse because of the power dynamics against his will. Why don’t we believe victims and survivors of sexual abuse? This is a sad reflection of how we behave as a society. We need to change this and believe the survivors of abuse. We also need to start teaching our children about good touch and bad touch. It is imperative that we make our children safe from predators.

‘A man ejaculating on a woman’s picture is made viral content’: Hania Aamir on netizen’s hypocrisy

Ever since Hania Aamir posted a video with the Wajahat brothers, she’s constantly been the talk of the town and trending on social media. After Asim Azhar’s tweet about Hania, the exes fiercely indulged in an online feud, after which several celebrities, from the Pakistani drama and film industry, started posting their views on the issue. After a lengthy online battle, Hania posted that men think it’s funny to demean women, “Where a woman showing affection to her loved ones is wrong but a man ejaculating on a woman’s picture on video on the internet is retweeted and made viral content.”

The ‘ejaculation comment’ raised eyebrows and was apparently referring to an ‘incident’ during one of Hania’s live sessions. Recently, during an Instagram live hosted by Hania, a man joined in on the live session and started masturbating while looking at her picture. A visibly disturbed Aamir ended up going offline to process what had just happened. After the live session, some suggested the video had been doctored or edited.

    The Hania-Asim War

The issue started when after Hania posted the controversial Wajahat brothers video. Asim Azhar, who allegedly dated Hania for a significant period of time, took to his Twitter account and posted a GIF that people assumed was directed towards Hania.

The GIF posted by Asim said: “Bal Bal Bach Gaya.”

After few hours Hania tweeted, “You can either be a celebrity or a bitter ex with no dignity.”

Soon after the exchange of words between the two, Pakistani celebrities were quick to take sides.

Fahad Mustafa, Mirza Gohar Rashid, Ali Zafar, Danyal Zafar, Ali Rehman Khan, Shahveer Jaffry and Dananeerr Mobeen are supporting Hania.

“Disgusted with the way people are treating actresses of our industry if you don’t like what they do, you have a choice not to follow them but stop judging and trolling,” said Fahad Mustafa while addressing the issue on Twitter.

Similarly, other celebs extended their support to the Ishqiya actress.

The whole fraternity is now questioning cyber bullying and private lives being discussed publicly and how such issues should be taken up on social media.

“Remember me for the girl who touched your heart with a vulnerable meaningful conversation. Remember me for my kindness and love. Remember me as someone who tried to enjoy every moment regardless of the challenges in her life,” Hania wrote.

“Don’t worry. This is not an emotional giving-up post.”

“Just saw some people commenting disgusting things. So just wanted to come here and remind my beautiful following to always choose love over hate. And vulnerability over pretense. Love yourself and others around you. Laugh. Live your life,” she added.

Concluding her note, she wrote: “People hating don’t know any better. Anyone having an issue with you having harmless fun and a harmless laugh shouldn’t be a part of your life. Peace.”

Fahad Mustafa has donated Rs 20 lakh for a Hindu minor boy suffering from thalassemia during a live transmission.

A video recently went viral of a Ramzan live transmission hosted by Waseem Badami and Iqrar-ul-Hasan where JDC Foundation’s Zafar Abbas came along with a Hindu doctor whose minor son was suffering from thalassemia.

However, during the live show, actor turned producer and now one of the leading game show hosts Fahad Mustafa called and pledged to donate Rs 20 lakh at the very moment.  The Jawaani Phir Nahi Aani actor also requested others to donate for the kid to meet the required amount.

VIDEO: Villagers use donkey to beat the heat

Villagers in India used a donkey to beat the summer heat by making a manual fan operated by a donkey.
