  • Afghanistan brutally exposed new-look Pakistan team with T20 series win

Afghanistan cricket team on Sunday beat Pakistan’s PSL- pick young team in the second T20 by seven wickets to lead the three match series by 2-0 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.

This is a historic moment for Afghanistan, marking the first time they have beat Pakistan in any format or in any series they have played against the men in green.

In an attempt to chase a 131-run target, Afghanistan played mature cricket, slowly working their way towards the target with one ball to go.

PSL’s Lahore Qalandars death over specialist Zaman Khan was unable to save 5 runs as Najibullah Zadran hit four on the second ball of the over.
Opener Rahamanullah Gurbaz set the tone for Afghanistan’s chase with 44 off 49 balls, courtesy of only one six and two fours.

Ibrahim Zadran then contributed an important 38 runs off 40 balls at the one-down position with three fours to his name.

When asked to finish the match, veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi produced 14 off just 9 balls to take the Afghans to the finish line and make sure they broke the tape before Pakistan.

For Pakistan, only Zaman Khan and Ihsanullah were able to bag one wicket apiece.

Earlier, Pakistan batted first and all thanks to Imad Wasim’s 64 off 57 balls, were able to post a reasonable 131-run target on the board. Captain Shadab was the second-best batter with his 32 off 25 balls.

Pakistan started their innings by losing two wickets for zero after Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled a double-wicket maiden.
Saim Ayub was caught behind the wicket by keeper superbly on the second ball of Pakistan’s innings.

Incoming batter Abdullah Shafique was once again caught LBW, after losing his wicket in the same fashion in the first T20.

Farooqi brought the ball swinging back into the right-handed batter, who was unable to predict the movement while trying to play across the line.

Right-handed opener Mohammad Haris tried to give Pakistan the much-needed push with six and two fours. However, his innings of intent came to a premature end when he edged one to the keeper for an easy catch off pacer Naveenul Haq.

Tayyab Tahir, another youngster in the Pakistan squad, tried to protect his wicket to give the Men in Green a dependable option in the middle-order, but he also couldn’t lengthen his stay after scoring 13 off 23 balls.

Big-hitter Azam Khan was dismissed by Afghan captain Rashid after facing four deliveries for only one run.

Farooqi was the hero for Afghanistan with the ball bagging two wickets off four overs, giving one maiden and 19 runs.

Naveen, Rashid, and Karim Jannat bagged one wicket each for Afghanistan.
The last T20I of the three-match series will be played at Sharjah again, on Monday, March 27.

  • Young Pakistani squad all set to give Afghanistan a tough time in T20 series

Young Pakistani squad all set to give Afghanistan a tough time in T20 series

Pakistan Skipper for Afghanistan series Shadab khan believes that his new-look and much younger team will give Afghanistan a tough time in the T20 series in Sharjah from today.

PCB has decided to rest senior players and also a top run scrorer in recent domestic league. Shadab khan replaces Babar Azam. Some other players who have a tremendous PSL season but are resting for this series include senior Muhammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf.

“It is a great honour for me to be leading Pakistan,” Shadab said on Thursday. “As a player, this is the highest you can go in your career.
“I am very excited for the upcoming three T20Is. We have a brilliant mix of youth and experience, which makes us a well-balanced side, and we have what it takes to win this series.”

Shadab previously led Pakistan in a three-match T20I series in New Zealand when Babar was injured, losing 2-1.

Batters Saim Ayub, Pacer Zaman Khan and Ihsan Ullah are uncapped while Imad Wasim, Azam Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Abdullah Shafique recalls for the National team.

Afghanistan have also recalled former skipper Mohammad Nabi after leaving him out of the three-match T20 series against the United Arab Emirates that they won 2-1 last month.

Rashid Khan will lead Afghanistan side after Afghan tigers replace Muhammad Nabi.

Shadab said Afghanistan was a dangerous side “and they have some good T20 players in their side but I am very confident with the players that I have in my squad”.

Pakistan has beaten Afghanistan in all three previous T20Is — a one-off match in 2013 in Sharjah, T20 World Cup 2021 and Asia Cup last year.

Pakistan agreed to play the series — the first bilateral between the two countries — in place of three one-day Internationals that Afghanistan were supposed to play against Australia this month.

Cricket Australia pulled out of that series following an announcement from Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban that it was banning university education for girls and not forming a women’s cricket team.

Afghanistan Cricket Board chief executive Naseeb Khan hoped fans will enjoy a good series.

“Both nations have passionate fans that support their teams with enthusiasm and pride,” said Naseeb. “As neighbours, we have a special bond and we hope to showcase not only our cricketing skills but also the spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.”

US Open Cup bans Salt Bae for his annoying FIFA World Cup 2022 antics and breaking rules

Turkish chef Nusr-et Gokce, better known as ‘Salt Bae’, has been banned from the US Open Cup final after his antics at FIFA World Cup celebrations angered football fans across the globe.

Founded in 1914, US Open Cup is the oldest and most prestigious soccer tournament in America.

The development has been confirmed on the official Twitter handle of the US open cup.

For some reason, he was allowed onto the field with the players in the immediate aftermath of Argentina’s victory over France. He was seen with the trophy, which he even slapped and did his little “salt and pepper” trick on as well.

Lionel Messi was witnessed being approached by the owner of the steakhouse, who seemed irritated when Salt Bae grabbed his arm and dragged him off for a photo. The Turkish chef has received strong criticism as a consequence, especially from former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster.

“Its current design dates back to 1974,” FIFA’s website reads. “As one of the most recognised sports symbols in the world and a priceless icon, the original FIFA World Cup Trophy can only be touched and held by a very select group of people, which includes former winners of the FIFA World Cup and heads of state.”

An internal investigation is being conducted to find out how the chef was authorized to be so near to the players. It is unclear how Salt Bae was permitted on the field. Additionally, he violated World Cup rules by holding the trophy.

  • The seat-belt debate- it’s about time Pakistani celebrities were mindful about how their actions influence their fan base

The seat-belt debate- it’s about time Pakistani celebrities were mindful about how their actions influence their fan base

It started with a simple reminder: be mindful about wearing a seatbelt when driving with your children. Activist Shaneira Akram directly addressed actor Feroze Khan when he was driving with his infant in his lap, in a clip he posted himself. The activist stressed on the how this scenario put the child at risk had there been a car accident.

“If your child is in your lap in the front seat and another car hits you even if only going 30km or less, your child will be flung from your arms, hit the dash or hit the windscreen or worse.”

But this exchange had led to a heated back and forth with Feroze Khan writing that the activist doesn’t have “strength of understanding” after Shaneira called him out for tagging her in a video depicting animal cruelty.

And now another actor Imran Ashraf has engaged in the argument when he was called out by Shaneira for taking inspiration from Feroze and uploading a clip of himself driving with his child in his lap without a seatbelt.
“Please say that this is wrong or little lives are at risk!” she posted on her Instagram stories

This all brings to question that why aren’t celebrities taking heed of Shaneira’s warning and dismissing it off as a simple controversy? As she had stressed in her posts, this was not about targeting a specific celebrity, or creating a spectacle out of something small, but shedding light on an urgent matter that has become a reason why many people lose their lives every year, all due to the careless mistake of not wearing a seat belt. As in 2020, WHO had shared in a report where data showed that around 1.93% of deaths in Pakistan were linked to road accidents. Similarly, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics published a report of traffic accidents in Pakistan from the years 2009 to 2020. The data they published revealed that more than 104,105 accidents had taken place out of which 44,959 were fatal. Moreover, due to such fatal accidents, 55,141 people had passed away and 126,144 were found seriously wounded.

Given the stress of the situation, is it not better that celebrities take precaution of their platform and the influence they maintain over their fan base, and remain mindful that their actions can have consequences? Other celebrities had taken it on themselves to educate their fellow actors, as well as audiences on how a simple action like wearing a seatbelt can prevent something traumatizing from occurring. Actors Ayesha Omar and Fia Khan had responded to a post uploaded by Niche Lifestyle on their Instagram by sharing that it was absolutely tragic that seat belt precautions are not being taken seriously by celebrities.

Fia had written: “Thank god @iamshaniera is being heard. Also these Parents who don’t bother to fasten the seatbelts when their kids are sitting at the back. What if you have to break all of a sudden? Where do you think God forbid your kid will go?”

Social media users had also taken Shaneira’s side in the whole situation, and had criticized celebrities for refusing to understand the precariousness of the situation and not taking the issue of seat-belt safety properly.

This twitter user pointed out how Pakistani roads can be described as “lawless” because of careless driving and little attention given to the importance of seat-belt precautions, and yet Pakistani celebrities choose to remain oblivious to this reality.

Other users expressed the same disappointment that Pakistani celebrities refused to understand how dangerous driving without a seatbelt can be

It’s disappointing that in 2022, driving safety is something public figures still need to be educated about. Anyone who is a household name would have a massive number of followers, and who could imitate their actions without a thought. Therefore argument should encourage celebrities to remember the power of their voice and be more mindful of the type of content they share with their audience.

‘Don’t even know Bipasha Basu’: Armeena Rana hits out at trolls for remarks on her pregnancy shoot

While sharing a screenshot from the comment section of her maternity shoot picture, Khan showed how she shut a troll for being a “hypocrite” for wanting her to confide to his perfect ‘desi woman’ standard. “Troll me all you want, I don’t care and will never care,” she wrote reiterating that it’s her online space and she shares all updates with her fans and well-wishers and not with haters.

She went on to share the brutal comments she has received on the post. A person commented on how her maternity shoot looked like a “Hollywood copy” and that women shouldn’t copy the “Kafir (sinners)” to feel empowered. “Hey ladies, Don’t be like Fatima. She’s a hypocrite,” wrote Khan.

Triggered by the negative comments, Khan put up a PSA for everyone following her. “Next up, I will talk about my delivery and all of the details when it happens. [This is] my space, not yours,” she wrote in a series of Instagram Stories. “If I haven’t triggered you religious fanatics enough yet, watch this space.”

She also went on to encourage other women to share their experiences of motherhood, and otherwise and claim their space after a fan congratulated her for finding the strength to do the same. “Claim your space, ladies. Motherhood and all its aspects are indeed beautiful. We should discuss our experiences. Let’s lift the ‘shame’ which isn’t even Islamic by the way, but has more to do with misogyny and our oppressive culture,” Khan exclaimed.

Khan, on a roll, pointed out the lack of logic in a certain troll’s comment who insisted on her to feel “shameful because she’s a Muslim woman.” She said, “When you see a pregnant woman in public on the streets, do you wear those horse blinkers or do you avert your eyes? I doubt you do either. It all depends on how filthy your mind is,” she concluded her series of posts.
