Virat Kohli had stood up in defence of Mohammad Shami, who was targeted by trolls after Team India lost the match to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Soon after, Kohli received backlash by Indian extremists and his 9-month-old daughter was also targeted.

Earlier, Alt News had revealed that the person who sent the rape threats was an Indian.

The accused is a Hyderabad techie who worked for a food delivery app earlier, claims the police.

ANI tweeted, “Mumbai Police Cyber Cell arrests a man from Hyderabad for giving online rape threats to the daughter of an Indian cricketer following team’s loss against Pakistan in T20 World Cup. The man, identified as one 23-year-old Ramnagesh Srinivas Akubathini, is being brought to Mumbai: Mumbai Police.”

Last week, the Delhi Commission for Women had sent a notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber) in connection to the threats. DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “It is learnt that he is being also attacked since he spoke against the incessant trolling of his teammate Md. Shami who was targeted for his religion by online trolls. This is a very serious matter and attracts immediate action.”

A video with emotional scenes of Head Coach of India Ravi Shastri’s farewell meeting with the players and Virat Kohli at the end of the tour after India’s last group match in the T20 World Cup went viral.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared a video of the players embracing each other after the match between India and Namibia on Wednesday.

In the video, Kohli first hugged Shastri and then hugged the rest of the players by shaking hands. The video showed Shastri’s close-up, showing how sad he was at the team’s poor performance.

This match was the last match for Ravi Shastri as head coach and for Virat Kohli as captain and this was the reason why clouds of sadness were seen on the faces of both the players.

When the video went viral on social media, Indian social media users could not control their emotions and started posting pictures of the two embracing each other, at the same time the fans also took to Twitter to share their sentiments.

He also gave his own twist to the famous dialogue from Bollywood film Baazigar starring Shah Rukh Khan.

Soon after Indian batting ended in the first half of ‘India vs Afghanistan’ match of T20 World Cup Super 12 stage, Twitter was flooded with reactions on Afghanistan’s performance.

‘Pointless’: Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis slam match-fixing ‘conspiracy theories’ after India beats Afghanistan

Former Pakistan captains Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram were critical of suggestions on social media of match-fixing during the India-Afghanistan clash. The pace bowling duo dismissed the claims as ‘conspiracy theories’.

After two back-to-back defeats, India finally registered a victory in the T20 World Cup with a comprehensive 66-run win over Afghanistan. However, while most of the cricketing fraternity praised India’s dominant performance, some users on social media started a viral trend alleging the match was fixed and India ‘paid’ well.

Reacting to the trends, Akram said on A Sports, “I don’t know why we like to create such conspiracy theories? India are a very good team. They just had couple of bad days at the start of the tournament.”

Waqar echoed the sentiment saying, “It’s a pointless thing to say and people should not give it much attention.”

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India scored 210 for two in their must-win Super 12 game. This is so far the highest score of this World Cup and the only time a team crossed the 200-run mark in what has been a low-scoring tournament.

Pakistani Virushka fans react after Vamika’s rape threat by Indian extremists

Every time the Indian cricket team loses a match, the players of the team are subjected to harsh criticism. This time the fans who claim to love the sport have gone one step ahead, as now the family members of the players are being targeted.

It is gruesome to even read the tweet by now-deleted account @Criccrazyygirl issuing a rape threat to a nine-month-old Vamika Kohli, daughter of Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma and Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. The identity of the person who tweeted the rape threat is yet to be verified, the screenshot has been amplified several times by right-leaning handles.

Pakistani netizens reacted to this horrendous attack on a toddler, who has nothing to do with India losing their matches. We have collected a few reactions who are saying that as a Pakistan, We Stand With Virat Kohli, have a look:

The barbaric tweet called for the toddler’s photo to be revealed while issuing a rape threat. As on November 1, the handle was deleted from Twitter.

The tweet came at a time when captain Kohli is facing online attacks for speaking in support of his Muslim teammate Mohammad Shami, who was attacked online after the cricket team faced a 10-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup.

Shami was subjected to vicious online trolling and abuse on Instagram and Twitter soon after the match between the two teams, in which he conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs, ended.

Despite India having world-class batters, Black Caps dismissed seven Indians during the first innings of the match. Indian captain Virat Kohli could only score nine. Currently, India is at number 5 in Group B of the T20 World Cup 2021.

‘Bunch of spineless people’: Virat Kohli slams trolls who abused Shami

Indian skipper Virat Kohli lashed out on Saturday at the “spineless people” who abused pacer Mohammad Shami on social media after Pakistan defeated India on Sunday, in their first clash in the T20 World Cup.

“There’s a good reason why we are playing on the field and not some bunch of spineless people on social media that have no courage to actually speak to any individual in person,” said Kohli while talking to reporters in a presser.

Kohli said that social media trolls were “literally the lowest level of human potential that one can operate at.”

He further said: “Attacking someone over their religion is the most, I would say, pathetic thing that a human being can do.”

The 32-year-old said that online abuse had become a “source of entertainment in today’s world” and that he was confident the episode would not affect the dressing room atmosphere.

“We stand by him fully. We are backing him 200 per cent. Our brotherhood, our friendship within the team, nothing can be shaken,” he added.

The Indian team as well as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had stayed silent after the incident.

However, several former Indian players like Irfan Pathan, Virendar Sehwag and others had spoke against the abuse on social media.

Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammed Rizwan also extended his support to Shami on social media.

Team India lost the match by 10 wickets. Babar Azam and Rizwan’s prolific innings lead Pakistan to the record-breaking victory at the Dubai International Stadium.

Pakistan’s leading film actor Shaan Shahid has apologised to his fans after he took to Twitter and said that Virat Kohli’s fifty was selfish and Babar Azam’s half century was for the team.

The Khuda Kay Liye star took to Twitter and shared his thoughts on the scores of both the captains and said: “Kohli’s 51 was for himself but Baber’s 50 + was for the team. #baberazam mughlay Azam #greenpoweristhefuture.”

Many fans criticised the Waar actor for his comments. Here are a few reactions:

Pakistan crushed India by 10 wickets after a terrific inning by Babar and Mohammad Rizwan. Babar and Rizwan’s 152-run partnership for Pakistan was not just a match-winning stand, but also the biggest opening partnership in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup and Pakistan’s second-biggest partnership in a T20I for any wicket.

The Green Shirts will be facing New Zealand on Tuesday in their next match in the World Cup’s Super twelves.
