Former Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis is ready to step down from his post as Cricket Affairs Advisor to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi just a few days after his appointment.

According to ARY, a new cricket advisor could be appointed in place of Younis. Some officers refused to cooperate with the former fast bowler, an act that left him bitter. He is now reportedly ready to resign from the post. He has been absent from the post since several days.

The former captain has been appointed a mentor in the Champions Cup starting next month, along with Misbah ul Haq, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Shoaib Malik.

Sources say Waqae’s tenure as Advisor Chairman of the PCB was until August 19. He was appointed for a short period.

Waqar Younis’s appointment was also challenged three weeks ago in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The petition challenged the PCB’s decision to make the appointment without advertisement.

Waqar Younis and Wasim Akam slam decision to rest Shaheen

Former Pakistani fast bowling greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have slammed the decision to give rest to Shaheen Shah Afridi before the third Test in Sydney. Wasim Akram has said that the decision was Shaheen Afridi’s alone and was not influenced by the management, stressing that players have to decide whether they want to become great cricketers or prefer financial gain.

Wasim Akram said on Fox Cricket, “After the Sydney Test, we will play five T20 against New Zealand and Shaheen Afridi is the captain of this format, but its T20 cricket, who cares? I understand it’s for entertainment and it’s for financial gain for the cricket boards and the players, but cricketers should know that Test cricket is the ultimate.”

“These players have to understand and learn whether you want to become a great sports player or you want to earn money, you can be both with a little more understanding,” he said.

Waqar Younis expressed surprise at the absence of Shaheen Afridi and said, “I was expecting Shaheen to be a part of the last match because he was looking good before the last match.

Waqar Younis advises Shaheen Afridi to copy Jasprit Bumrah’s World Cup blueprints

Pakistan’s former fast-bowling great, Waqar Younis, has advised pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi to learn from India’s Jasprit Bumrah, if he wants to make an impact in the World Cup.

Afridi has been struggling with his pace and fitness during the World Cup, putting in what fans have called unimpressive performances in all three World Cup matches, conceding 139 runs and taking only four wickets so far.

While talking to AFP, former national pacer Waqar Younis said, “I don’t know if there is any problem with Shaheen’s fitness or not but his bowling lacks discipline and he is trying to get wickets. When you do the same thing over and over again, like Shaheen does with his yorkers in succession, the batsmen knows that and they are ready to play it”.

Younis suggested that, “Shaheen follow the example set by Bumrah,” whom he described as a “top bowler”. Bumrah is putting pressure on the opposition teams, Waqar pointed out, adding that his line is above the off stumps, “as we saw, that he bowled well against Pakistan”.

“There was a lack of discipline from Pakistan’s bowling side in the World Cup. I don’t think it’s just because of the lack of  Naseem Shah, he used to bowl with Shaheen Afridi and both of them put pressure on the opposition batsmen” Waqar Younis said.

‘Kaptaan, aap larae jeet gaye’; celebrities congratulate Khan on being set free

After the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the cricket fraternity came together to support the ex-cricketer. Khan was one of the greatest all-rounder of the cricket and mentored such players las Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Inzimam UL Haq and Aqib Javed.

Former fast bowler Waqar Younis tweeted right after Imran Khan’s release and congratulated him.

“Won the fight but long way from winning the War. Congratulations Skipper @ImranKhanPTI ALLAH pak aap ko apna hifzoimaan main rakha #Ameen #PakistanZindabad “

A day earlier, the PTI chairman got blanket relief from the IHC as authorities have been barred from arresting the deposed prime minister in any case till Monday morning (May 15).

In the first relief, a two-member special divisional bench granted two-week bail to the former prime minister in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, and later, the court barred authorities from arresting him till May 17 in any new case filed against him till May 9 — the day he was detained in the corruption case, which led to deadly protests.

Then, he sought transitory bail in four cases lodged against him in Lahore, in which the court awarded him bail till May 22 in the Zille Shah murder case, then, another bench barred authorities from arresting the former prime minister till the morning of May 15 while hearing the bail petition filed against three terrorism cases.

Khan was arrested in a corruption case involving a property tycoon. The former prime minister had immediately approached the high court for release but it had declared his arrest “legal”.

However, the apex court released him on May 11 after concluding that he was taken into custody in violation of rules by law enforcement agencies.

Since being ousted from office last April, Khan has waged a tempestuous campaign for snap elections and fired unprecedented criticism at the coalition government and military who he blames for pulling him from power.

He has accused senior military and government officials of plotting a November assassination attempt that saw him shot in the leg during a rally.

Hassan Ali equals Waqar Younis, Imran Khan’s record in Bangladesh Test

Pakistani speedster Hassan Ali has equalled former pacer Waqar Younis and former captain Imran Khan’s record for most five-wicket hauls in Test cricket by a Pakistani fast pitcher in a calendar year.

The right-arm fast bowler was unable to impress his fans with his performance at the T20 World Cup but he bounced back at the T20I series against Bangladesh in the first T20I of the three-match series. Now, the pacer has proved himself once again with a 5-wicket haul against Bangladesh in the first innings of the first Test match at Chittagong.

Hassan was the architect of Bangladesh’s lower-order batting collapse on Saturday as he took quick wickets to ensure a dangerous Bangladesh were restricted to 330 runs in their first innings.

With figures of 5/51, Ali not only managed to be the pick of the Pakistani bowlers during Bangladesh’s first innings but also entered the record books alongside some of the greatest names of the game.

All three Imran Khan, Waqar Younis and Hassan Ali now have 5 five-fers in Test cricket to their name within a calendar year (1982, 1990 and 2021, respectively).

Pakistan’s former fast bowler Younis holds the record for the most five-fers ever (across formats) in a calendar year by a Pakistani fast bowler, with 6 in 1993.

Meanwhile, Pakistan scored 79 after 29 overs before tea on the second day. The national side is set for a big score with this partnership built by Asad Shafique and Abid Ali.

‘Pointless’: Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis slam match-fixing ‘conspiracy theories’ after India beats Afghanistan

Former Pakistan captains Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram were critical of suggestions on social media of match-fixing during the India-Afghanistan clash. The pace bowling duo dismissed the claims as ‘conspiracy theories’.

After two back-to-back defeats, India finally registered a victory in the T20 World Cup with a comprehensive 66-run win over Afghanistan. However, while most of the cricketing fraternity praised India’s dominant performance, some users on social media started a viral trend alleging the match was fixed and India ‘paid’ well.

Reacting to the trends, Akram said on A Sports, “I don’t know why we like to create such conspiracy theories? India are a very good team. They just had couple of bad days at the start of the tournament.”

Waqar echoed the sentiment saying, “It’s a pointless thing to say and people should not give it much attention.”

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India scored 210 for two in their must-win Super 12 game. This is so far the highest score of this World Cup and the only time a team crossed the 200-run mark in what has been a low-scoring tournament.
