  • Govt to impose tax on underground water usage

    The government of Sindh on Tuesday decided to impose a new tax on the use of water in the province, Profit reported.

    A draft of law comprising recommendations for the proposed tax has been prepared and the officials of local government department will brief the members of the provincial cabinet over the upcoming Sindh Water Tax Act in a meeting.

    The draft of the law suggests Rs1 per litre tax on water, sources said. The tax will be recovered from the mineral water companies, according to sources.

    Proposed tax will also be recovered from the soft drinks manufacturing companies, as per the report

    The revenue generated by the proposed tax will be distributed among the Karachi Water Board and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).

    Science Ministry introduces mineral water for Rs 1/litre

    The Ministry of Science and Technology, under the patronage of Fawad Chaudhry, has launched its own mineral bottled water, Safe Drinking Water, for Rs 1/litre. However, this water is only available to government offices.

    Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that the step has been taken keeping in mind the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf government’s austerity measures. This bottled water will provide a cheaper alternative to the mineral water that is currently available.

    The minister also shared that the Pakistan Council of Research and Water Reserves has so far prepared 500 ml bottles of the water.

    The water is expected to be served to officials at PM Office, President House, GHQ and Parliament House first, before being distributed to other ministries. After that, they will be available to the public. The minister aims to provide people with cheap and safe drinking water.

    releases water in River Sutlej.  Most of us are mostly worried that water
    is going to get into our houses.

    Here are the ways you
    can protect your home.

    Before the flood: Prevent

    Clean the drains and
    gutters

    Seal the cracks (if
    any) in your house with plaster of Paris.

    Don’t dispose of fats,
    oil, grease or other objects in your sinks or toilets as they block the
    drainage systems.

    Electrical equipment
    should be at least one foot above flood level to help reduce the risk of
    electrical damage.

    Moving your valuables
    items and documents to the first or second floor will help to protect them. Or
    try to put them on higher places if you live on the ground floor.

    During
    the flood: Protect

    If the flood is imminent then these are the ways that might help to minimize the damage

    Open up windows and
    door (if it is not raining) to allow air to circulate through your home and dry
    things out

    Shut off all the
    electrical appliances if safe.

    Try to place handy electrical appliances to wooden or cement blocks.

    After a flood: Restore

    Remove the water and
    damaged material.

    Disinfect and dry
    every flood-contaminated room.

    Keep fans running. Make sure switches are dry and safe to touch.

    Most
    importantly follow all the instructions by the official departments of the
    government.
