Yasir Hussain, Ayesha Omar, Mikaal Zulfiqar speak up for Naila Jaffery

Yasir Hussain, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Omar and Sabeeka Imam have stepped forward and raised their voice for veteran actress Naila Jaffery, who is currently battling ovarian cancer.

“TV walo yeh aap ki hi aik sathi adakara hain. Aur yeh apna haq mang rahi hain. imdad nahi,” wrote Yasir Hussain on social media.

The actor further said: “Fellow actor Naila Jaffery ki halat dekhny k baad bhi hum kehty hain k hamen khuda ka khouf hai aur hum aakharat se darty hain.”

Ramzan main chanda aur signal pai bheek dene se kuch nahi ho ga. Hamen haq dena ho ga,” he added.

“It’s really time to take a stand on this,” said Mikaal sharing Yasir’s story. It is pertinent to add here that the Durre Shehwar actor has previously also demanded TV channels to pay actors for reruns.

Voicing her support, Ayesha Omar said: “Heartbreaking to see yet another senior actor and someone who has given so much to our industry suffering and reminding the government/industry giants about their due rights.”

Omar further added: “She’s absolutely right. Senior actors, especially those who don’t have family support and are undergoing long term treatments should be given royalties and financial support, if not all.

Sharing the video of Jaffri’s appeal, Sabeeka Imam wrote: “This is so heartbreaking.”

“I have worked with her and she is the sweetest person. Dear channel owners, please have it in your hearts to at least give her what she’s due,” said the model, adding: “I am certain Allah will reward you with more! Love you Naila Jee.”

Ushna Shah also took to her twitter and said: “Royalties are meant to feed artists for life but in PK we are heartbreakingly forsaken. #NailaJafri shouldn’t have had to publicly request for what is hers on her cancer bed. Many artists have relied on the kindness of samaritan fans once their distress was made public.”

In another tweet, she wrote: “Artists deserve a royalties for their art, a retirement plan, a union, an insurance for difficult times, a dignified pension, like every other hardworking person on this planet.”

In her appeal video, Naila had requested for compensation of her re-broadcasted dramas on PTV.

“For the last six years, I [have been tied to] hospitals, as well as illness and cancer,” said the veteran actor. “I have also not had my second round of chemo either because of persistent infection and during this time I wondered: ‘What if the government lends a hand in this? What if they set up some policies for older people from the arts and sports sector?’.”

She further said: “When I initially joined PTV, I would get royalties for re-run shows and while that amount was nowhere near enough, it was still something and I liked having a stream of disposable income on the side.”

“I have been confined to a hospital bed for six years now and while everyone has supported me, loved me, helped me, and motivated me I wish there was some way to gain royalties on some of my last re-run plays,” said the actor. “Though I understand that it might not look like a lot to many people, for people like me who stopped working years ago, this support becomes important.”

“I request and demand that something is done for senior artists in the future since it’s become harder and harder for us to manage,” requested Naila.

Later in the day, Yasir shared that someone reached out to him in order to the help the veteran actor.

Zindagi mai pehli bar laga hai k social media ka kuch faida hai,” said Yasir. “Naila Jaffery jee k baray mai meri Insta story dekh k aik farishty ki call aai and now they are connected.”

Alhamdulillah is mulk main bohot achy log bhi hain,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Government has announced that they will bear all medical expenses of the actor.

As per details, Sindh Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Sardar Ali Shah, in a statement, said that his department would bear all treatment expenses of Jaffery.

Sardar Shah on Twitter announced that his department would bear all treatment expenses of Naila Jaffery. He said in his tweet: “Culture department will happily bear all her expenses .. can anyone share her contact number?

In another Instagram story, Yasir said: “Shukria un tamam logoon ka jinhoon ney yeah royalty ka system iss mulk sey khatam kia warna aaj koi bhi fankar yeah bat na kar raha hota.”

  • ‘Our industry is very hypocritical,’ says Yasir Hussain

‘Our industry is very hypocritical,’ says Yasir Hussain

Yasir Hussain has addressed all controversies surrounding him and has opened up on why he feels he ends up in one.

Speaking to BBC Urdu, Yasir said: “Our industry is very hypocritical – it has always been. The actors in our industry are hypocrites. Whenever I get into a controversy, they call me. Why do they call me? Who are they to talk to me about the controversy if I have done something right or wrong? They talk to me for like 15 minutes over a phone call and then just hang up.”

“Why don’t they speak about it on social media and say they support me?,” questioned Yasir, adding: “They will not because they know if they will support me or say that they support my point of view, they will get bashed as well. I don’t care about the backlash, but they do.”

Talking about his “controversial” comments, Yasir asked why don’t people question the talk show hosts or the channels for asking silly questions.

“I went on a show and was asked some controversial questions. They told me that if I will not answer the questions then I have to drink some spicy drinks. I had no other option but to answer those questions – it was either that or I give myself a stomach ulcer. I even took my name or their name to play safe but they told me saying that taking our or your name is not allowed. So I had to take some names.”

The actor further said: “I took Azfar Rehman’s name because I knew he won’t mind as he is one of my closest friends in the industry. Even he said in an interview that I am overrated. This is because we know each other and we won’t mind passing such comments on each other.”

“Why am I always wrong? Why aren’t the hosts, the producers or makers of those shows are not wrong?,” asked Yasir.

“People say that I am controversial and share only controversial stuff. I also share good things but no one shares that,” said Yasir. “No one talks about my good things, they only share my controversies because they know that no one will read anything which is not masalaydaar.”

Meanwhile, talking about his comments on Diriliş: Ertuğrul being aired on Pakistan Television, Yasir said that he was not against the series being aired but was pushing for a joint production venture between the two countries.

Hussain is well known for speaking his mind and passing statements which often evolve into controversies. Recently, his comments on a television show erupted a clash between him and Shahroz Sabzwari. When Yasir was asked to name an actor who should have stayed on television instead of doing films, the actor had named Shahroz.

Taking to Instagram stories, the Lahore Se Aagey actor shared a collage of the actors which included Anoushay Abbasi, Hasan Ahmed, Furqan Qureshi, Afraz Rasool and Zain Afzal.

Meanwhile, earlier in an interview with a local media outlet, when Yasir was asked to name an actor who should have stayed on television instead of doing films, the actor had named Shahroz Sabzwari.

Responding to Yasir’s comments, Sabzwari had said: “I think everyone has their own opinion and I respect Yasir’s. I respect everyone’s opinions, whether it comes from someone in my family or a random person on the street. No one has been subjected to flak the way I have.”

The actor further said: “And he’s [Yasir’s]… I know him. So if that is what he thinks, then that’s fine by me.”

“I own all my characters and my films. One of them Chain Aye Na was a dead flop, but I own it. I think everyone should do that too. A bad film or a character that doesn’t work for you should never define your potential. An actor is only done when he tells himself in the mirror that he is done,” expressed Sabzwari.

“Yasir is entitled to his opinion and if you ask me mine, I will say that I respect all the actors around me,” said Shahroz, adding: “Even someone who plays a minor role is significant to me because when the camera is rolling, even saying ‘Assalamualaikum, kaisay hain aap’ becomes a task.”

Shahroz Sabzwari responds to Yasir Hussain’s comments on his acting skills

Shahroz Sabzwari has responded to Yasir Hussain over his comments that the former should have stuck to television instead of venturing into films.

In a recent interview with a local media outlet, when Yasir was asked to name an actor who should have stayed on television instead of doing films, the actor named Shahroz Sabzwari.

Responding to Yasir’s comments, Sabzwari said: “I think everyone has their own opinion and I respect Yasir’s. I respect everyone’s opinions, whether it comes from someone in my family or a random person on the street. No one has been subjected to flak the way I have.”

The actor further said: “And he’s [Yasir’s]… I know him. So if that is what he thinks, then that’s fine by me.”

It is pertinent to add here that Sabzwari has been subjected to a lot of criticism ranging from nepotism to his acting skills to his ‘questionable’ personal decisions.

“Nowadays, people say so many things and many of us take them to the heart. We need to be stronger. We have to nurture ourselves and filter out the bashing that comes our way. If you don’t filter it out, you will lose,” said Shahroz.

When asked if he thinks he made the right choices with his films and if there could be some weight in Hussain’s opinion, Shahroz said: “I’ve never made a wrong decision in my life. Before taking on anything I say Bismillah and I give it my best.”

“But again, Yasir is entitled to his opinion and if you ask me mine, I will say that I respect all the actors around me,” said Shahroz, adding: “Even someone who plays a minor role is significant to me because when the camera is rolling, even saying ‘Assalamualaikum, kaisay hain aap’ becomes a task.”

  • Yasir Hussain vs Nausheen Shah: Who said what?

Yasir Hussain vs Nausheen Shah: Who said what?

Yasir Hussain should just add ‘controversy’ as his middle name given the number of controversies he is involved in. The actor is famous for his online banters and heated exchanges with followers and colleagues. This time, the actor has gotten into an online feud with Nausheen Shah after he claimed that she attended his wedding as an uninvited guest.

While appearing on Vasay Chaudhry’s new talk show Ghabrana Mana Hai, when the host asked Hussain if anyone from the entertainment industry attended his and Iqra Aziz’s wedding uninvited, Yasir went on to name Nausheen Shah. A series of wisecracks followed after which Yasir tried to gloss over the matter by saying that he admired Nausheen’s sense of style. This made the situation even worse.

As expected, the clip from the interview went viral on social media with people criticising Vasay and Yasir for their crass comments.

Nausheen initially ignored the matter, opting to post two quotes on her Insta-story instead.

“Weak people revenge. Strong people forget. Intelligent people ignore,” read one, while another said: “When you are building an empire you don’t pay attention to nonsense. I am too busy to get distracted.”

Later, while speaking to a local media publication, Nausheen said that there was no truth to Hussain’s claims.

“Would anyone go to someone’s house uninvited? I wouldn’t go to anyone’s house if I wasn’t invited, let alone someone’s wedding,” she said. “A fool is known by his speech and a wise man by his silence. Yasir called me himself and invited me. I feel so sorry for Yasir because certainly has serious memory issues. I also feel really sorry for Iqra. She is taking one for the team,” she snapped back.

Later, responding to Nausheen’s comments and social media outrage, Yasir said that social media needs to get over the whole issue. In a series of Insta-stories, he defended his comments saying that he was telling the truth and if that made him wrong, then the TV channel airing the show was also wrong and the bloggers and Instagram pages pumping up the issue were also at fault.

Poora system ghalat hai mai akela nahi (the whole system is wrong and not just me alone),” said Yasir, adding that if audiences wanted to watch shows following the Koffee with Karan format, they needed to be able to bear with the answers as well.

“Enjoy the show and move on,” said Yasir. “Sarr per sawaar na ho jao.”

The actor further went on to say that he once requested a blogger to publish a poem on rape victims that he read, asking them to also post good things about him, “Magar nahi. Negativity hee bikti hai, positive cheez post kar k likes lena mushkil hai toh enjoy karen sab.”

Ghussa aur sawal kyon?” he questioned.

In another story, Yasir stood by his stance and asserted that Nausheen did attend his wedding uninvited.

“I shared the truth about senior actor Nausheen ‘that some people came forcefully’,” wrote Yasir.

“If Miss Shah insists, then I can share the voice notes she sent after which I sent her the location of the wedding. She continued to annoy everyone at the event. She was desperate to come to my wedding just as she is being right now. After sharing to ignore things, she couldn’t even resist herself for 30 minutes,” continued the actor.

“And Miss Shah please stop using my wife’s name for views. You feel sorry for her? Good… After your voice note, she also felt sorry for you,” he added.

Meanwhile, speaking to another publication, Shah said: “I am just shocked. I am following a different path than this and I really don’t want to get involved in this sort of controversy. Yasir and the host chose to discuss all this and they can keep discussing it if they like. I was ignoring the whole matter but I am thankful for all the support that I have gotten from the media and from my fans commenting on social media.”

“If I had known that going to Yasir and Iqra’s wedding was such a big problem, I wouldn’t have come. I don’t really want to get involved in this,” she repeated. “The only reason why I am saying all this is that you reached out to me.”

While the industry till now has chosen to remain silent on the matter, Noor Bukhari commenting on a post said: “I have worked with Yasir and Nausheen Shah. We were in London and Yasir and Nausheen were good friends. And Nausheen is not somebody who will go anywhere without an invite. But this shouldn’t be dragged this much. He should have apologised politely.”

Anoushey Ashraf, who had earlier gotten into a spat with Yasir on social media, also lashed out at the actor, saying: “People don’t remember what you said and what you did but they certainly remember how you made them feel.”
