    Zaheer Ahmed child marriage case: Court give temporary custody of girl to parents

    The Sindh High Court (SHC) has given temporary custody of the Karachi girl who was allegedly abducted last year to her parents. The case was heard on the request of the girl’s mother and father.

    However, SHC reminded the mother of the girl that she and her husband have a huge responsibility.

    “Alhumdulillah after a 7 month long battle today the victim child is finally going home. She unequivocally informed Honourable High Court that she wants to reside with her parents. There are many lessons to be learnt from this case & reforms are needed to curb child marriages,” Lawyer Jibran Nasir wrote in a tweet.

    “I would like to thank respectable Advocates Nabeel Kolachi, Ahmed Ali Hussain, Amna Usman, Ahmed Sher Jutt, Fahad Ahmed Siddiqi, Zaheer Hussain and Rafique Ahmed who all provided their services pro bono to ensure safe recovery and return of the child for sake of justice, the tweet added.

    The 15-year-old minor was allegedly kidnapped from Karachi. She later married 21-year-old Zaheer Ahmed in Lahore. A case was registered against Zaheer and his brother Shabbir for orchestrating the marriage of a minor.

  • Court bars media from revealing victim identity in Zaheer Ahmed case

    The judicial magistrate East Karachi has imposed a ban on publishing the name, address and photo of the girl who was allegedly abducted from Karachi and married in LahoreThe court has banned the media from publishing any content related to the underage girl. The court also banned the media from further sharing information that has already been disclosed.

    The application was filed by the state prosecutor, Muhammad Younus. The judicial magistrate accepted the district public prosecutor’s request not to reveal the identity of the girl child.

    “No report in any newspaper, magazine, or news sheet of any case or proceedings in any court under these in which a child is involved shall disclose the name, address, or school, or include any particulars calculated to lead directly or indirectly to the identification of any such child, nor shall any picture be published being or including a picture of any such child in the best interest of the child,” the magistrate said in the order.

    According to the written judgement, the Child Restraint Marriage Act prohibits revealing victims’ identities, addresses, and images in the media as a protective measure.

    The Minor was reported as kidnapped in April but later found to have purportedly ‘eloped’ in Punjab was brought back to her hometown on Sunday, her father’s counsel confirmed.

    A day ago, a judicial magistrate in Lahore had allowed the Sindh police to take The Minor custody from Darul Aman and safely produce her before a Karachi trial court.

    Magistrate Rizwan Ahmad passed the order after hearing the contention of a police official from Sindh and a counsel of the girl’s father.

    Earlier in October 2021, Hira celebrated the bail of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan. Hira took to her Instagram stories and wrote, ‘Mera Piyara sa bacha bahar aagya Allah apka laakh laakh shukar, Mubarak.”

    The Bombay HC had granted bail to Aryan, 25 days after he was arrested during a drugs raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast on its way to Goa. He was released today.

    The Minor case: Zaheer Ahmed gets protective bail till July 14

    The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted protective bail to Zaheer Ahmed till July 14. Justice Aalia Neelum presided over a one-person LHC bench that heard Zaheer’s case on Thursday.

    According to Zaheer, The Minor married him of her own free will and he did not kidnap her.

    Zaheer’s lawyer claimed that they were concerned that the police may detain his client and asked the court to release him on protective bail so they could apply for interim bail at the concerned court.

    The Minor’s father Mehdi Kazmi asked the Sindh High Court to recover his daughter and has alleged that Zaheer Ahmed had kidnapped her.

    The petition submitted by The Minor’s father stated that his daughter was 13 years, 11 months, and 19 days old when she was kidnapped by Zaheer Ahmed.
