    ‘I am giving you an opportunity to hang me’: Zahir Jaffer calls the judicial system ‘incompetent’

    Zahir Jaffer was kicked out of an Islamabad sessions court on Wednesday for interrupting and misbehaving with the judge, SAMAA has reported. In a video being widely shared on social media, Zahir can be seen being dragged out of court by policemen. As per media reports, the prime suspect in Noor Mukadam’s murder case misbehaved and used derogatory language in the court.

    Journalist Zubair Ali Khan tweeted that Zahir Jaffer in court said, “I’m giving you guys an opportunity to hang me but still you guys are dragging this, this shows it is all a puppet show.”

    Zahir further said that he has never seen more incompetent people than [the ones] sitting in the [court] room in his entire life.

    The Supreme Court has approved the bail of Zahir Jaffer’s mother, Asmat Adamjee. Zahir is the prime suspect in Noor rape and murder case. His mother’s bail is granted in exchange for bail bond of Rs1 million.

    A three-member bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, while hearing the bail plea, granted bail to the accused Zahir Jaffer’s mothrr on the grounds of her gender and on the ground that she was not present at the crime scene, Urdu News has reported.     The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan directed the prosecution to submit evidence against Zahir Jaffer’s (prime suspect in Noor Mukadam’s murder case) mother Asmat Adamjee, reports Dawn. 
    

    The Court was hearing the bail pleas of ​​the parents of Zahir Jaffer, which were previously rejected by the Islamabad High Court (IHC). 
    

    The petitioner’s lawyer Advocate Khawaja Harris stressed that the case against the petitioners was not based on solid evidence, rather the allegations were highly speculative.
    

    Justice Umar Ata Bandial, during the hearing, pointed out that there was no mention of Adamjee in the IHC’s order denying bail to the duo. 
    

     “We are just trying to get the hang of the Noor Mukadam case,” Justice Bandial said while adding that the court was seeking information only to understand the facts of the case.
    

    Khawaja Harris argued that the order to complete the trial in two months will affect the right to a fair trial.
    

    To which the court said that the right to a fair trial was a must. “But the delay in handling the case only adds to anxiety.” 
    

    Justice Bandial adjourned the court till October 18. However, last week a sessions court in Islamabad fixed October 14 for the indictment of 12 suspects in the case.

    Zahir Jaffer’s parents have challenged Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) bail rejection by approaching the Supreme Court (SC), reported Geo News.
    

    Zahir is the prime suspect in Noor Mukadam’s murder case.
    

    Advocate Khawaja Harris filed a petition on behalf of his clients Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, arguing that delivering a verdict in two months goes against the rights of the suspects and the principles of a transparent trial.
    

    According to the petition, a complete challan of the case has not yet been presented in the trial court, while the high court went beyond its jurisdiction by directing to complete the trial in two months.
    

    Furthermore, the petition argued that the police investigation was biased and not impartial. According to Zahir’s parents’ lawyers, the defendants will not be able to defend themselves properly in prison as it will be difficult for them to communicate with them being in prison.
    

    Last week, the IHC had rejected the bail pleas of both of Zahir’s parents and also ordered the court to complete the trial within eight weeks.

    US embassy sends ‘books, perfumes, clothes and shampoo’ for Zahir Jaffer
    
			
    The US embassy in Pakistan sent a parcel containing books, perfumes, clothes and shampoo for Zahir Zakir Jaffer, the prime suspect in Noor Mukadam case, through a courier. The courier was sent to Adiala Jail but the jail authorities refused to accept it. 
    

    Superintendent of Adiala Jail, Arshad Warraich, told The Nation that the US Embassy had sent a courier for Zahir Zakir Jaffer but the administration returned the courier. He continued by adding that a letter was also written to the embassy by the jail administration to use the channel of Ministry of Interior in future if they want to send any thing for their citizen facing murder charges. “The parcel was returned by the jail authorities last Saturday,” he said in response to a query.

    The prime suspect in Noor Mukadam case, Zahir Jaffer and six other suspects appeared in court today for the hearing of the bail petitions filed by Zahir Jaffer’s parents Zakir Jaffer and Asmat Adamjee, Geo News has reported. As per details, the Islamabad High Court will indict 12 persons in the Noor Mukadam case on October 6.
    

    Noor’s father, Shaukat Mukadam’s lawyer Advocate Shah Khawar, said in court that as per the provisions of the presidential ordinance, the murder case should be held in a special court.
    

    A Twitter user shared videos of Zahir and his father Zakir Jaffer coming to the district and sessions court of Islamabad for the hearing. Zahir Jaffer and Zakir Jaffer were presented with the police challan today. In one of the videos, Zahir can be seen “skimming it without reading it through.”

    Khawaja Harris, who is representing Zahir’s parents — Zakir Jaffer and Ismat Adamjee — read out the confessional statement of Zahir Jaffer today in Islamabad High Court, Geo News has reported.  The lawyer was presenting his arguments during a hearing on their bail application.
    

    The statement made by the suspect in police custody, according to Harris, has no legal standing. He stated that the suspect’s statement must be recorded in front of a magistrate. 
    

    In his arguments, Harris said that one sentence changes the shape of the whole case. “What was the role of the father? Only the recovery is mentioned in the memo of recovery, so how did his statement get included,” Khawaja Harris asked.
    

    The case, according to Harris, was not that complicated.

    While sharing the picture on her Instagram account, she wrote about Noor’s tragic story. “I’m sharing this story because this is the fate of our women here in my country!     Zahir Jaffer, the prime suspect in the Noor Mukadam case, asked police officials to keep media persons out of the courtroom, Mona Khan reported for Independent Urdu. While appearing for the hearing of the case today, Zahir told police officials: “We have privacy, keep the media out of the courtroom.”
    

    Moreover, Zahir’s mother Asmat Adamjee asked police officials to delete a video from the phone of a cameraman of a private news channel. Police officials then took the phone from the cameraman and deleted the video clip.
    

    Zahir came for the hearing today in Islamabad District and Sessions court with a new haircut. The prime suspect was wearing a brown shalwar kameez and was talking to police officials in Urdu. Earlier, Zahir had said that he does not understand Urdu.
    

    The police submitted the challan of the case today.
    

    Therapy Works CEO Dr Tahir Zahoor, while addressing a press conference on Saturday, said that Zahir Jaffer is an alcoholic who has been playing lunatic after murdering Noor Mukadam.
