‘No action can be taken against any CM over speaker’s actions’: Elahi challenges governor’s denotification order in LHC

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Pervaiz Elahi on Friday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging Governor Balighur Rehman’s de-notification from chief minister’s office.

In the petition, Elahi has appealed to the court to declare the governor’s move illegal.

“No action can be taken against any chief minister over speaker’s actions,” maintains the petition.

Governor Rehman denotified Elahi in the late hours of Friday, citing a failure to take the vote of confidence from the provincial assembly as political turmoil in Pakistan’s largest province reached breaking point.

“Since the CM has refrained from obtaining the vote of confidence at the appointed day and time, he ceases to hold office. Orders issued this evening,” Governor Rehman stated.

Following the governor’s instruction, Chief Secretary of Punjab Abdullah Khan Sumbal, also notified the dissolution of the provincial cabinet. “Mr Pervaiz Elahi has ceased to hold office of the Chief Minister Punjab with immediate effect,” reads the notification.

‘Suicide blast’ in Islamabad’s I-10: One policeman martyred, several injured

A suicide blast in a vehicle left a policeman martyred and at least six people injured in Islamabad’s I-10/4 sector on Friday, the federal capital’s police said in a statement.

Shortly afterwards, the Islamabad Police declared a “red alert” in the city.

According to Deputy Inspector General of Police Sohail Zafar Chattha, the police spotted a “suspicious vehicle” with a man and a woman aboard at 10:15am in the area.

“When the police stopped the vehicle, the couple came out of the car. The long-haired man, while being checked by the officers, went inside the vehicle on some pretext and then detonated himself,” he said in a media briefing at the crime scene alongside Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon.

Police officials said that cops had stopped a “suspicious” taxi for snap checking when the explosion occurred.

In a tweet, the Islamabad police said police officers were conducting snap-checking when they signalled to the suspicious vehicle to stop.

“A suicide bomber aboard the vehicle detonated a bomb soon after the car stopped near the officers,” it said.

Injured cops were moved to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

All the hospitals in Islamabad have been put on high alert, a notification issued by the Ministry of National Health Services said. The ministry said to ensure the attendance of all the medical and paramedical staff.

The Ministry of Health said that all federal hospitals should be kept on high alert keeping in view the current situation.

Soon after the blast, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif summoned a report of the suicide blast and also condemned the terror incident.

The PM also paid tribute to the martyred policemen, adding that the nation pays tribute to its martyrs. He added that the whole nation will fight against terrorism.

“The plan to shed innocent blood has failed due to the action of the law enforcement agencies,” said the PM. He also announced a martyr package for the family of Head Constable Adeel Hussain.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed that “two terrorists” were killed in the blast.

“The vehicle used in the blast was registered in Chakwal. The car entered Islamabad from Rawalpindi […] it was packed with explosives and headed for a high-value target in the capital,” he said.

Sanaullah added that had the car reached its target, it would have caused heavy losses.

The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement released on Friday.

  • S&P Global lowers Pakistan’s credit rating to CCC+

S&P Global lowers Pakistan’s credit rating to CCC+

Pakistan’s long-term sovereign credit rating was downgraded by S&P Global from “B” to “CCC+” to reflect the continuous deterioration of the country’s external, fiscal, and economic metrics.

According to S&P, Pakistan’s already meagre foreign exchange reserves would continue to be under pressure through 2023 without a drop in oil prices or an improvement in international aid. The nation also faces significant political risks that could alter its future course of policies.

According to the report, Pakistan’s economic and fiscal results are predicted to be negatively impacted by this year’s devastating floods, skyrocketing food and energy prices, and rising global interest rates, with refinancing issues over the medium term.

The agency maintained its outlook at “stable”.

With barely enough reserves to pay one month’s worth of imports, a dollar shortage, and a delay in its loan programme with the International Monetary Fund, Pakistan is in the midst of an economic catastrophe. Despite the payment of a $1 billion bond this month, long-term dollar bonds continue to trade at distressed prices, reflecting investors’ lack of confidence in Pakistan’s capacity to meet its international debt commitments.

Following the terrible floods that hit the country earlier this year, Moody’s lowered Pakistan’s sovereign credit rating by one notch, from B3 to Caa1, citing heightened government liquidity and external vulnerability risks.

  • Problem solved: Google can now read your doctor’s bad handwriting

If you can’t read what your doctor wrote, you are not alone. Many tech firms have attempted to solve this age old problem with little to no success. Well now, we finally have a solution.

Google is having a go at translating those unfathomable texts.

On Monday, the search giant announced at its annual conference in India that it is working with pharmacists to explore ways to decipher doctors’ poor writing.

The feature is currently a research prototype and not ready for the public yet.

Once it’s launched, Google will allow its users to either take a picture of the prescription given by their doctor or upload one from the photo library. Once the image is processed, the app deciphers the scribbles and will tell you what’s written on the prescription.

  • US Open Cup bans Salt Bae for his annoying FIFA World Cup 2022 antics and breaking rules

US Open Cup bans Salt Bae for his annoying FIFA World Cup 2022 antics and breaking rules

Turkish chef Nusr-et Gokce, better known as ‘Salt Bae’, has been banned from the US Open Cup final after his antics at FIFA World Cup celebrations angered football fans across the globe.

Founded in 1914, US Open Cup is the oldest and most prestigious soccer tournament in America.

The development has been confirmed on the official Twitter handle of the US open cup.

For some reason, he was allowed onto the field with the players in the immediate aftermath of Argentina’s victory over France. He was seen with the trophy, which he even slapped and did his little “salt and pepper” trick on as well.

Lionel Messi was witnessed being approached by the owner of the steakhouse, who seemed irritated when Salt Bae grabbed his arm and dragged him off for a photo. The Turkish chef has received strong criticism as a consequence, especially from former Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster.

“Its current design dates back to 1974,” FIFA’s website reads. “As one of the most recognised sports symbols in the world and a priceless icon, the original FIFA World Cup Trophy can only be touched and held by a very select group of people, which includes former winners of the FIFA World Cup and heads of state.”

An internal investigation is being conducted to find out how the chef was authorized to be so near to the players. It is unclear how Salt Bae was permitted on the field. Additionally, he violated World Cup rules by holding the trophy.

  • Marriage can be dissolved on the basis of cruelty of husband: SC

Marriage can be dissolved on the basis of cruelty of husband: SC

The Supreme Court on Wednesday held that a marriage can be dissolved on the basis of cruelty inflicted by a husband upon his wife. The verdict was announced in a case filed against the Peshawar High Court (PHC) verdict which overturned the decision of the family court of dissolving a marriage on the basis of cruelty by the husband.
Headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, a three-judge Supreme Court bench announced the landmark verdict.

Family court had dissolved the marriage due to cruelty following the recording of evidence and hearing from both parties on a suit brought by Tayyeba Ambareen against her husband Shafqat Ali Kiyani demanding dower money, dowry items, medical expenses, and maintenance for herself and their daughter.

However, the decision was overturned and the woman was instructed to return five tolas of gold to her husband.

The SC in its verdict has said that the family court rightly dissolved the marriage on account of cruelty after a thorough examination and consideration of evidence.

  • Noor Bukhari, Shaniera Akram’s feud takes an unexpected turn

Noor Bukhari, Shaniera Akram’s feud takes an unexpected turn

Amidst Shaniera Akram’s digital feud with actors Feroze Khan and Imran Ashraf, veteran actor Noor Bukhari slammed Shaniera for being nosy.

“Please ignore her she has commitments on every celebrity,” the former host penned on Instagram.

“She commented on one of my and Resham’s posts, and we completely ignored her. I don’t even know who she is.”

Bukhari then lent support to Imran Ashraf, who clarified his driving reel with son Roham, and added, “You don’t need to explain as every parent is aware of their child’s safety and well-being. More power to you. Stay blessed, we all pray for you and your family.”

Akram then took to her Instagram story and addressed Bukhari’s criticism. “Are you kidding me?” the activist wrote. “I never said anything to you, Noor other than disagreeing that Humayun Saeed was too old to play romantic heroes. Give me a break.”

Akram continued, “I’m sorry if it offended you or anyone else, but it kills me to see people, especially ones with big followings, doing dangerous things with their kids and then posting on social media. It’s just not okay with me.” In the next story, Akram wrote, “And please get over yourself. You know exactly who I am and what I stand for.”

Later, Bukhari apologised to Akram while agreeing with the latter about the kids’ safety issue. “You are absolutely right on the safety part of our kids,” she shared on her Instagram story. “I apologise that I misunderstood you. I feel no shame to apologise as my comment was not in good taste. I’m sorry.”

Surprised by Bukhari’s apology, Akram thanked her and shared, “Wow, thank you! Really didn’t expect that. At least this is cleared up and we can move forward.”

Earlier this year Akram come forward to share her thoughts on the ageist remarks made by Noor about Humayun Saeed.

“I don’t know about this. From my experience, I think many incredible love stories happen a lot in the second half of life,” said Shaniera Akram.

“So many people haven’t found their true love or are still looking for it. There are many unmarried, divorced [and] widowed people in the world — don’t rule them out. Theirs is the true story of finding love,” she wrote in her Instagram story.

Taking to the Instagram story section, Noor said that the storyline of London Nahi Jaunga is extremely weak. She also took a jab at Humayun, believing he should be doing more mature roles. Bukhari added that “Love doesn’t happen in this age.”

The much-anticipated Lollywood film was released on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha and its leading cast includes Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat, Kubra Khan and Vasay Chaudhry.

  • Argentina may put Messi’s picture on banknote

Argentina may put Messi’s picture on banknote

The Argentine Central Bank has proposed putting Lionel Messi’s photi on their 1000 peso banknote after the country won the FIFA World Cup. As reported by financial newspaper El Financiero, the proposals have been made by the Central Bank officials of Argentina.

“Capturing Lionel Messi’s face on the thousand-peso bill, since it is important for officials that the figure begins with a ’10’,” wrote El Financiero.

The proposal to place Messi’s face on the bank notes was, according to the publication, made “jokingly” by central bank officials.

“And before you think otherwise, this option was ‘jokingly’ proposed by members of the Argentine Central Bank, although the most enthusiastic directors, such as Lisandro Cleri, a fervent supporter of Boca Juniors, and Eduardo Hecker, a follower of Independiente, agreed on that a bill with this design would awaken the collecting spirit of Argentines,” wrote El Financiero.

The Argentina Central Bank previously created commemorative coins following Argentina’s 1978 World Cup victory. Additionally, commemorative coins were produced in honour of Eva Perón, the former First Lady of Argentina, on her passing.
