‘Regressive movie’: Ratna Pathak Shah slams India’s Oscar-nominated film ‘RRR’

Veteran Indian actor Ratna Pathak Shah has termed SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster film RRR starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR as a regressive movie.

At a recent event, Ratna took a dig at Rajamouli’s magnum opus, said: “Films like RRR are so popular today. But it’s a regressive film. It looks backward while we should look forward. We just feel whatever we are doing is good because we are part of the mother of democracy India.”

“Until filmmakers will not see their work critically, we will have to watch films like RRR. But we don’t like criticism. Our ego gets hurt. This atmosphere is created by so many big people and, unfortunately, we have accepted it,” said the Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na star.

RRR has been a recognized film not only on a domestic level but also internationally. The film portrays the story of two freedom fighters Allu Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. Apart from Charan and NTR, it also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in supporting roles.

‘No difference between Hamza Shehbaz and Bilawal for me’: Zardari

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that he does not see any difference between his son, Foreign Minister (FM) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Hamza Shehbaz.

In a statement, he said that after Pervaiz Elahi is removed from the post of chief minister of Punjab, the next chief minister of the province should be elected from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) rather than the PPP.

Zardari explained that he would not like to select the next Punjab CM from his party because the seat deserves a candidate from the PML-N due to its majority across the province.

The statement comes as the combined Opposition of PPP and PML-N in Punjab seek to oust CM Pervaiz Elahi after he didn’t seek a confidence vote today (Wednesday).

Earlier, it was reported that Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) might give the post of CM to PPP after Zardari was said to be campaigning in Lahore to get the seat.

  • Why are women still being pushed back from their right of public transport?

Why are women still being pushed back from their right of public transport?

We’ve heard sleazy men behind anonymous accounts push back against this. We’ve seen boomers roll their eyes every time they see this happen. Now, recently, we’ve had to listen to the unsolicited opinion of Behroze Sabzwari on this issue. Can you guess what causes these men to go into frenzied anger? It’s the ability of a woman to choose independence by taking public transport.

It is amusing how this country won’t revolt in a political or economic crisis, however, our mard hazarat will unleash hell when a Pakistani woman is walking down the street without a dupatta or even riding a bike. The consistent way women have to fight away unsolicited opinions that drag her in to a box, unable to express her individuality and bound away from walking outside is a by-product of centuries of male entitlement and patriarchal oppression that consider women as inferior beings.

A few days ago, women had to witness a mansplaining Behroze Sabzwari expressing anger that women shouldn’t wear tight-fitted clothes while riding bikes. “The clothes are not only see through but usually are very tight, women should be fully covered,” said the television veteran who owes his career mostly to women’s writing. It’s shocking that not only does Mr Sabzwari encourage drivers to spend more time oogling women while driving, but also does not take into account how dupattas or abayas can get caught in wheels, potentially causing a dangerous accident.

Founder of Soul Sisters Pakistan, Kanwal Ahmed, has now jumped in to take back the narrative from men and allow women to express their own choices whether that includes driving motorbikes wearing abayas or refusing to sit sideways. The film maker has posted on Twitter that she wishes for women to stop feeding in to misogynist policing that is making them neglect proper safety while riding bikes on roads, and shared how today she had seen a woman suffer because her dupatta had gotten entangled in the tire of her bike.

Women soon began to flood the comments with instances of how they had to counter sexism and shame when choosing to ride motorbikes .

This user shared how even in situations of life and death, a man’s honor is considered more important than a woman’s safety because of how little regard is given to the way women are sitting on motorbikes.

    https://twitter.com/m1shkat/status/1605306717927272448?s=20&t=Mls-QjW0ZTGLmpJl5VZl3Q

We need to stop validating male honor and giving it preference to the point that women have to risk the chance of an accident rather than riding motorbikes safely. Women should not be forced into molding themselves according to what men think, and it’s about time the anonymous Bashir’s of the internet back off, let women reclaim the streets wearing whatever they want and ride any vehicle of their choice.

  • Gold price hits new all-time high of Rs178,800 per tola

Gold price hits new all-time high of Rs178,800 per tola

One-tola and 10-gramme rates for domestic gold reached record highs of Rs178,800 and Rs153,292 on Tuesday after increasing by Rs3,900 and Rs3,344 respectively.

The price of the yellow metal on the global market increased by $12, according to the All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association (ASSJA), and surged to $1,808 as a result.

Gold prices have increased by Rs52,800 per tola and Rs45,096 per 10-gramme since January 1 when prices stood at Rs126,200 and Rs108,196 respectively.

Vice President of ASSJA Junaid Samiwala claimed that the lack of pure gold on the market was to blame for the price increase. “Big groups are investing black money in gold for good profits.”

He asked Ishaq Dar, the finance minister, to start an operation on individuals who are stockpiling the yellow metal.

“Gold prices have reached this point today because of speculators. Ideally, as per the dollar rate, gold rates in Pakistan should be Rs152,000 per tola,” Samiwala said, calling for strict action against “groups” controlling the rates.

Furthermore, the price of silver per tola increased by Rs20 to reach Rs2,050. 10-gramme silver costs increased by Rs25.72 to Rs1,757.54.

  • ‘Confidence motion against CM’: Kya hoga 4 bajay ke baad Pervaiz Elahi ke sath?

‘Confidence motion against CM’: Kya hoga 4 bajay ke baad Pervaiz Elahi ke sath?

Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman directed Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi to obtain a vote of confidence from the house today (December 21).

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Governor’s Secretariat, “The governor Punjab is pleased to sign order summoning the provincial assembly of Punjab at 1600 hours (4pm) on Wednesday (December 21) and requiring the chief minister of Punjab to obtain a vote of confidence in terms of Article 130(7) of the Constitution.”

However, Punjab Assembly Speaker Sibtain Khan has said that the governor cannot call a meeting during the ongoing session of the provincial assembly as per the rules.

Following his meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan at his Zaman Park residence, the speaker said that the PDM was running away from elections.

“When the governor asks for a vote of confidence, the CM is required to take a vote of confidence. The constitution is very clear,” tweeted Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) President Ahmed Bilal Mehboob.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah warned that if Elahi did not obtain a vote of confidence today, he would cease to be the province’s chief executive.

“The Punjab Assembly speaker’s stance that the assembly is in session, so the CM cannot be asked to obtain a vote of confidence is wrong. If Elahi fails to do so, he will cease to be the CM,” he maintained.

Sanaullah said the governor would issue an order barring the chief minister from holding the office in case he did not get a vote of confidence by Wednesday afternoon.

He has also said that Governor Punjab will give a new notification at 4pm today (Wednesday, December 21). According to the new declaration, Pervaiz Elahi will no longer be the chief minister.

  • Elon Musk will step down as Twitter CEO once he finds a ‘foolish enough’ replacement

Elon Musk will step down as Twitter CEO once he finds a ‘foolish enough’ replacement

The billionaire Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that he will step down as Twitter’s CEO once he finds a replacement, although he will continue to oversee some crucial departments of the social media network.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” Musk wrote on Twitter.

Some investors have questioned if Musk is too preoccupied to properly operate his electric vehicle automaker Tesla, in which he is actively involved in production and engineering. Musk’s $44 billion buyout of Twitter in October has been defined by upheaval and controversy.

After Twitter users chose for him to stand down in a poll that the billionaire started on Sunday night, Musk has now publicly acknowledged leaving his position as the social media platform’s CEO for the first time.

17.5 million individuals participated in the poll, and 57.5 per cent of them chose “yes.” Musk declared on Sunday that he will follow the outcomes. He has not specified a date for his resignation, and no replacement has been named.

The survey findings brought to a close a hectic week that saw modifications to Twitter’s privacy policy and the suspension and reactivation of journalist accounts, all of which garnered criticism from news outlets, advocacy groups, and government officials across Europe.

Musk stated in a Twitter Spaces session that Twitter’s cash flow will achieve break-even in 2023, according to a tweet from Bloomberg on Wednesday.

Bloomberg claimed that Musk explained the forecast as a result of recent cost-cutting initiatives he has implemented on the social media site.

Wall Street has been calling on Musk to leave for weeks, and more recently even Tesla supporters have questioned his focus on social media and whether it would be a distraction from operating the EV manufacturer.

Musk has acknowledged that he has too much on his plate and that he will search for a new CEO of Twitter. But he claimed on Sunday that there was no one in place to take his place and that “no one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive.”
