‘Highlight previous history of PML-N as to how the party attacked judiciary’: PM Khan directs party spokespersons

During a meeting with his spokespersons, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday said the alleged audio leak of former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar was devised by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He instructed his spokespersons to highlight the previous history of the PML-N as to how the party had attacked the judiciary and maligned judges, reports Dawn.

“But their [PML-N] bad tactics will not work this time,” he added.

“The government stands by the state institutions,” said PM Khan.

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday said that the PML-N should come out of “leaks, fake videos, and games” and clarify allegations against them on the basis of merit.

Taking to Twitter, Fawad wrote: “Nawaz & Co, come out of fake videos, leaks, and games and answer the allegations levelled against you on the basis of merit.”

“These dramas have completely flopped. If you do not wish to be imprisoned, then you should return the nation’s wealth,” said Fawad, adding, ” This is a simple solution, which they are complicating as a way out.”

The minister’s comments come in relevance to the leaked audio of an alleged conversation claiming that CJP Nisar was the person who passed on the directions of handing down conviction to PML-N supremo Mian Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, Maryam Nawaz only because the “institutions” wanted the former prime minister penalised in order to bring ahead Imran Khan. Ahmed Noorani reported this for FactFocus.

All petrol pumps will be closed as petroleum dealers announce strike on Nov 25.

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association has announced a countrywide strike on November 25 for selling petrol “on low-profit margins”.

What did they say?The association’s spokesperson said that all petrol pumps across the country, including Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, will remain closed on November 25 (Thursday).

He said the strike could extend to an “unspecified period” if the government continues to ignore the association’s demands.

PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan said petroleum dealers have been in a difficult position due to the high cost of business and low margins. He said that the government guarantees a margin of only two per cent on sales of fuel oil in the face of rising electricity tariffs.

“We demand the government to cancel our petrol pumps licences. Nearly 50 per cent of the petrol pumps will close down permanently with licence cancellation as no one will reapply for acquisition”.

Background:Previously, the association had made a similar announcement for November 5 but withdrew after a team from the government agreed to increase margins on the sale of petroleum products by six per cent.
However, there has been no progress ever since.

Taliban ban women from acting in dramas

Afghanistan’s Taliban leadership has set new laws prohibiting women from acting in television shows. Female journalists and presenters are likewise required to wear headscarves when on camera. However, no guidelines have been issued regarding which type of covering to use.

Details: The restrictions include the banning of films considered against the principles of Sharia – or Islamic law — and Afghan values, while footage of men exposing intimate parts of the body is also prohibited.

Comedy and entertainment shows that insults the religion or may be considered offensive to Afghans are banned under the new laws.

Background: Earlier in September, Taliban laid special conditions for women. “[Here are] some special conditions that exist only for women. One is that the colour of their dress should not be very attractive. So that it does not attract people’s attention,” said a member of the Taliban on Afghanistan’s TOLO News, as per the subtitles of a video that went viral on social media.

Pakistan beat Bangladesh in the three-match T20I series in Dhaka on Monday through a clean sweep. Set 125 to win, Mohammad Nawaz sealed the deal with a boundary off the final delivery at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah Riyad (3-10) claimed three wickets in the final over. Haider Ali top-scored with 45 off 38 balls. Mohammad Wasim (2-15) and Usman Qadir (2-35) earlier claimed two wickets each for Pakistan.

Pakistan won the first two matches by four wickets and eight wickets respectively.

Haider Ali was declared Player of the Match after scoring the top runs. While Mohammad Rizwan is the Player of the Series.

“The way everyone has put in the efforts, credit goes to the players. You can always improve. Like our fielding has improved, our middle order has won games for us. Whatever mistakes we made, we want to make sure we don’t repeat them in the upcoming games. We want to carry this momentum into the Test matches. I want to thank the fans here,” said skipper Babar Azam in the post-match ceremony.
