A couple in Georgia have been arrested for starving their ten-year-old son.
Tyler and Krista Schindley were taken into custody and are being held in jail after a judge denied them bail.
Their 10-year-old son was found searching for food in their neighbourhood, leading to his parents’ arrest.
They boy weighed just 36 pounds.
“We aren’t releasing any photos of this child for obvious reasons, but I will tell you, the photos are absolutely horrible, and anybody with a human heart who looks at them should be shaken to their core,” District Attorney Marie Broder said.
She added: “It is my true belief that had he not gotten out of the home, this case would be a very different one.”
According to an arrest affidavit, the couple purposefully denied the youngster food and allegedly kept him sequestered in his bedroom without access to lighting, toilet paper or human contact.
The Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank has granted $213 million in funding to Balochistan for the purpose of improving livelihoods, essential services, and risk protection in communities that were affected by the devastating floods in 2022.

The floods of the previous year were a result of record monsoon rains in the southern and southwestern regions of Pakistan, compounded by glacial melt in the northern areas. The calamity affected nearly 33 million people in the country, which has a population of 220 million. Tragically, the floods claimed over 1,700 lives and caused substantial damage to homes, crops, bridges, roads, and livestock.
The Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project (IFRAP) outlined by the World Bank will provide housing reconstruction grants to approximately 35,100 homeowners. It will also focus on restoring essential services by rehabilitating damaged community infrastructure and facilities, such as water supply systems, irrigation networks, roads, and community facilities.
Balochistan, with its geographical location, socioeconomic background, and vulnerability to climate change, faces significant risks from natural disasters. Yoro Sidibe, a Senior Water Specialist at the World Bank, emphasized that the project aims to provide economic opportunities to the affected communities while ensuring social inclusion and participation. Additionally, it will enhance institutional capacity for preparedness and response to future disasters.
The World Bank expects that the Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project will benefit approximately 2.7 million people in selected communities across Balochistan’s calamity-declared districts. The project’s objectives include the restoration of degraded watersheds and the strengthening of institutional capacity at both the provincial and local levels.

Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that a total of 499 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed regarding the 9 May incidents. “Out of these, 88 FIRs were registered under the Terrorist Act, while the remaining 411 FIRs were filed for other offenses,” he stated while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.
The minister added that 19 people from Punjab and 14 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will be tried in military courts. “These people trespassed and entered sensitive defence installations, so the question is how did they manage to get there,” he said.
However, the minister clarified that not all trials will take place in military courts.
“A rumour is circulating that all trials will take place in military courts but that is not true. The military will investigate the case but not take cognisance of it. They will see whether the Army Act or the Official Secrets Act is applicable or not.”
While criticising former PM Imran Khan, Sanaullah said, “If Imran is left unchecked, he can lead the nation towards a disaster.”
In a historical move, Sindh has become the first province to introduce a teaching license policy for instructors from the public and private sector.
Under this policy, two teacher training insitutes will be established under the Sindh Teacher’s Education Development Authority (STEDA) and a board will be set up to oversee teacher trainings as well as provide professional licenses.
With this initiative, anyone who wishes to join with a Bachelor’s in Education (BEd.) can give the exam, after which they will be provided with a license to teach students from one of the three categories: elementary (Grades 1-8), primary (Grades 1-5) and secondary (Grades 6-12).
The Sindh government has also taken a step to attract more people towards the teaching sector by opening up 700 new vacancies for elementary school teachers for BPS-16 across the province, which will be offered to those with a BEd and a teaching license obtained by passing the exam.
Speaking on the success of the policy, the Provincial Minister of Sindh for Education, Culture, Tourism and Antiquites, Syed Sardar Ali Shah said:
“Conceptualising and bringing the teaching license policy to life has not been easy. However, I am grateful to Aga Khan University’s Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED), Sindh Teachers Education Development Authority (STEDA), Durbeen and all other partners who have worked tirelessly to make this policy a possibility. The success of the next generation of teachers and students ultimately depends on its smooth implementation.”
He also added that Sindh was the only province in Pakistan to pass the landmark bill which shall improve the teaching profession and attract mroe bright minds to the field:
“Sindh is the only province that has approved a teaching license policy, which represents a proactive approach to recognising the value and importance of effective teaching. With the policy in place, the Sindh Government has laid the foundation for a more robust and professional teaching workforce, which will have a positive and lasting impact on the educational landscape in the province.”
Minister of State for Petroleum, Musadik Malik, announced that Pakistan will soon receive a $10 billion investment in its refinery sector. The investment, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, holds significant details that cannot be disclosed at this time, according to Malik’s statement at a ceremony.
This development follows the approval of a new refinery policy by the current government, which aims to incentivise greenfield investment.
Malik emphasised the need for sustained GDP growth of 5 per cent in Pakistan’s growing population. To achieve this, he stated that an annual energy sector growth rate of 7.5-10 per cent is necessary. As part of this plan, the government aims to establish a comprehensive energy agreement with Central Asian countries and Russia, which will be made public by the end of the year.
Additionally, Pakistan intends to leverage its historical ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries for trade and commerce, including meeting energy needs such as LNG and petroleum products.
The government also plans to open energy corridors with Central Asia and the GCC countries. Malik highlighted the significance of purchasing crude oil from Russia, stating that it will have a transformative impact on Pakistan, leading to industrial proliferation. The goal is to establish small industrial areas in rural regions to promote value addition.
Malik underscored that Pakistan possesses the necessary infrastructure, labour force, and technology to present itself as an attractive investment destination. He emphasised the government’s efforts to enhance border enforcement to curb oil smuggling from Iran, expressing confidence that the flow of smuggled oil will reduce in the coming days.
In an off-camera meeting with media persons, the minister revealed that vessels carrying 100,000 tonnes of discounted Russian oil will arrive at Pakistan’s ports in the first week of June as part of the government’s energy security plan. The oil will be transported from Oman port to Pakistan in smaller vessels within seven to ten days. Malik assured that although transportation costs may increase slightly, the impact will be minimal.

The Sindh government is all set to launch a “Pink Taxi Service” featuring electric cars for facilitating female citizens of the province.
The development was announced by Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The minister said that initially, 200 electricity-powered taxis will start operating in Karachi, of which fifty will be women-only taxis driven by female drivers. He said that the hiring of female drivers and setting up of charging and parking depots is yet to be done.
He said that the project will also provide job opportunities to unemployed youth, while eco-friendly taxis will save oil worth billions of rupees.
Prior to this, the government also launched a pink bus service for women which is being frequented by a large number of female commuters.
