    Umer Sharif’s funeral prayers to be held today in Karachi

    Legendary comedian Umer Sharif’s funeral will be held today in Karachi’s Clifton area at 3pm today. As per the Zameen Aasman star’s wish, he will be laid to rest in the premises of mausoleum of Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Radio Pakistan has reported.

    His funeral prayers were held yesterday in Germany. A large number of people attended the prayers.

    He passed away on Saturday at the age of 66 years after a prolonged illness. He had left Pakistan in an air ambulance for treatment in the US on September, 28th.  However, his health condition worsened.

    ‘No action against cabinet members named in Pandora Papers till found guilty’: Fawad Chaudhry

    Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday said the federal cabinet members, whose names appeared in the Pandora Papers, would not be removed from their positions unless proven guilty.

    “Action will be taken once they are proven guilty,” said the minister.

    Chaudhry criticised the owners of media houses and said, “I see the photos of [Finance Minister] Shaukat Tarin and [Industries Minister] Khusro Bakhtiar being aired on TV channels, but not of media house owners, who have also been named as owners of offshore companies.”

    Prime Minis­ter (PM) Imran Khan on Monday formed a high-powered cell to investigate the 700 Pakistanis named in the Pandora Papers, including federal cabinet members, politicians, retired generals, owners of media houses, and others in establishing offshore companies.

    The cell will categorise the named individuals into four groups: those who have declared their offshore companies in Pakistan; those who have not declared their companies here and committed tax evasion; those who used their companies for money laundering and individuals who have not shown their offshore companies as part of the assets owned by them while declaring their wealth, reports Dawn.

    A woman was detained for throwing acid on her ex-husband in Lahore, Samaa News reported.

    According to the victim, Sajid Khan, his ex-wife attacked him outside his house near Band Road. The couple separated three years back. A week ago, Khan got married for the second time.

    “On September 30, I remarried. While I was on my way back home, she [the suspect] threw acid on me. There were two people with me who witnessed the attack,” he told the police.

    The investigation officer told Samaa that the woman disguised herself as a beggar to track Khan. “He has sustained third-degree burns on his back, neck and hands,” he added.

    Police have arrested the woman while an investigation is underway.

    Video: Airplane gets stuck under bridge in India

    An Air India plane got stuck underneath a foot overbridge on the Delhi-Gurugram highway outside the Delhi Airport, leaving people shocked.

    The viral video showed that the nose of the aircraft and half of its body had made it through, however, the plane got stuck near the wings area under the bridge, The Indian Express reported.

    Vehicles can be seen passing through one side of the highway while the other side appears to be largely blocked due to the aircraft.

    Later, the airline confirmed there was no mishap involved. The airplane has been sold by Air India and was being transported when it got stuck.

    “This is an old, scrapped aircraft which has already been sold off by us,” said an Air India spokesperson.

    According to the Times of India, a Delhi airport official, when contacted, said no flight or active aircraft had been involved in an incident.

    Explainer: Who are the 700 Pakistanis in the Pandora Papers?

    The Pandora Papers is a list that includes 700 Pakistanis, some of whom are prominent public figures like Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, who have offshore accounts. Some accounts have been declared and others have not. 

    What else? Prime Minister Imran Khan has set up a “high-level cell” to investigate the Pakistani individuals named in the “Pandora Papers”.

    “The prime minister has set up a high-level cell under the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission to investigate the Pandora leaks, which will present the facts before the nation,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has said.
     

     Kamyab Pakistan Programme

    Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has inaugurated a Rs 1,400 billion worth Kamyab Pakistan Programme in order to facilitate the underprivileged sector in Pakistan.

    What’s the progamme about?This scheme has five components: Kamyab Kissan, Kamyab Karobar, Naya Pakistan low-cost housing, Kamyab Hunarmand and Sehatmand Pakistan.
    It also includes a user-friendly portal called Kamyab Pakistan Information System (KPIS). The portal will be integrated with Ehsaas and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) databases for verification of beneficiaries’ eligibility.

    When will the programme be rolled out?The programme will be rolled out in phases. During the first phase, loans will be provided to the deserving families in Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK), Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the underprivileged areas of Punjab and Sindh.

    Interior minister says he is unaware of any talks with TTP

    Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed has said that he is unaware about the government starting talks with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
    “The Ministry of Interior has no role in this [talks with the TTP], and if the Taliban are engaged in any dialogue then it is not in my knowledge,” he said at a press conference.

    He added that “nothing is final as to how this will end up”.

    Prime Minister Imran Khan in an interview with TRT World said that if the TTP lay down their arms, “we can forgive them and they can become normal citizens”.

    Musicians flee Afghanistan fearing Taliban

    More than 100 music students and teachers fled Afghanistan on Sunday from Kabul, fearing a crackdown on music by Taliban, New York Times reported.

    The musicians were affiliated with the Afghanistan National Institute of Music that became a target of the Taliban in part for its efforts to promote the education of girls. Ahmad Naser Sarmast, who opened the school in 2010, said that it’s a big step and a huge achievement that Afghan musicians have been rescued from the cruelty of Taliban. He now lives in Australia.

    Sarmast said that the group comprises of both women and girls and they are planning to fly to Portugal with the support of the government there.

    Supporters of the school, global network of artists, philanthropists, politicians, and educators, plan to continue to work to get the remaining musicians out of Afghanistan.

    “The mission is not complete,” said Sarmast. “It just began,” he added.

    Since August when the Taliban consolidated their control of the country, a large number of Afghan musicians have fled the country.

    Imran Ahsraf has revealed what he was doing after WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram services were down for more than six hours.

    WhatsApp said in a statement that it was aware that some users were having problems using the app, saying: “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.”

    The Ranjha Ranjha Kardi star reacted to this and shared in a tweet that what he did during that phase, “I have switched 25 Wi-Fi passwords in an hour”.
