  • ‘Mouse plague’ in Australia: Mice crawl into beds and bite residents

‘Mouse plague’ in Australia: Mice crawl into beds and bite residents

Farmers in Australia are facing several problems due to a severe mice plague in the country. They allegedly have to put the legs of their beds in buckets of water to stop the mice from biting them while they are asleep.

Millions of mice are running riot in the eastern part of the country and are causing a serious destruction to farms by eating crops and attacking grain silos.

As per reports, livestock farmers have to scoop hundreds of dead mice they have managed to either drown in buckets or poison.

Kodi Brady, a farm owner said, “It does play massive impacts on your mental health. I don’t sleep because I’m paranoid, you know, you can hear them in your walls and your roof.”

Brady has been laying bait for mice for the last six months and despite efforts to seal his house, the rodents remain in large number.

“Your social and emotional wellbeing is shot and you are absolutely buggered,” he said.

The region has been fighting a mice plague for numerous months after heavy rains in recent years relieved the country’s worst drought in 50 years. The wet weather not only helped produce the country’s largest ever grain crop but also provided plenty food to mice.

Mice – believed to have arrived in Australia along with the first European settlers – are well suited to the country’s often harsh climate.

They can survive long periods of dry weather and when the weather turns, they thrive and rapidly reproduce as food and water gets available.

BBC News interviewed three farmers who spoke about living through the worst mouse plague in memory.

Man fined for hurting woman’s feelings

The court in the United Arab Emirates has ordered a young man to pay a woman Dh20,000 (Rs 840560) in compensation for hurting her feelings via text messages.

According to details, the young woman registered a lawsuit demanding the defendant pay her Dh100,000 as compensation for text messages he sent, in which he alleged her of having a relationship with many men and of sending him her pictures with an objective to seduce him.

The complainant indicated that she got a message from the man’s phone alleging her of befriending men, pointing out that a criminal judgment had been issued against him which required a fine.

She accused the man of insulting her after the judgment and asked the court for compensation for all damages she suffered.

The defendant demanded that the case be rejected, claiming the complainant was trying to get him charged because she wanted to negotiate the amount of Dh39,000 she owed him and that a verdict was issued relevant to this matter requesting the woman to return the amount to him.

The court ruled that in the light of the evidence, the defendant had been convicted in the criminal case for insulting the plaintiff. It stated that the incident caused moral damage, hurting the petitioner’s feelings and her reputation and ordered the young man to pay her an amount of Dh20,000 in addition to legal fees and charges.

  • Priyanka Chopra spills her secret to a happy marriage

Priyanka Chopra spills her secret to a happy marriage

Take some tips from Priyanka Chopra for a happy marriage.

“Secret behind a good marriage?” said Chopra while speaking to Vogue Australia. “I am just two years in, so I would be able to tell you only so much. According to me, it is conversation.”

“Actually sitting down, being able to speak to each other and spend time with each other. And actually enjoy it all,” added Chopra-Jonas.

Priyanka got married to Nick Jonas in December 2018 in two grand ceremonies.

When asked about how she managed to plan the “world’s most epic wedding,” Chopra said: “The secret behind [the] world’s most epic wedding was doing it in two months.”

“Because we did not have time to think about anything. So, by the time it was done, it was just perfect, epic,” she added.

Priyanka and Nick first got in touch via Twitter and soon started speaking to each other over text and Whatsapp. Their first meeting took place at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party in 2017 following which they met in Los Angeles, where they watched Beauty and the Beast at the Hollywood Bowl.

Chopra recently flew to LA from London to be by her husband’s side after he broke a rib and helped him present at the Billboard Music Awards (BMAs).

Meanwhile, Priyanka also opened up about the failures she has faced in her professional life.

“No one only wins. I’ve lost many battles. I’ve done many, many movies that no one has watched. It’s what you do after failures that defines you. To me, life is a ladder. It’s never a destination,” remarked the star.

Priyanka also said that she works hard so that the generation after her wouldn’t have to.

“We as Asians have always been taught that you’ve got to run faster than everyone to get where you’re going,” said Chopra. “I wanted to be seen as a mainstream leading lady, and not be boxed into the stereotype I saw a lot of, that required 10 years of work…and finally, I feel like I’ve been able to get to a place where I am doing that.”

“I think the responsibility is to constantly push the goalposts, not just for yourself, but for everyone who comes after you. For the next generation of South Asian talent, I want it not to take 10 years for them to get the roles that they want,” added the actor.

Priyanka has a string of releases lined up including Text For You co-starring Sam Heughan and Keanu Reeves’ Matrix 4. She is also working on her own production Citadel.

  • Brad Pitt was one of Jennifer Aniston’s favourite guest stars on ‘Friends’

Brad Pitt was one of Jennifer Aniston’s favourite guest stars on ‘Friends’

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt fans were in for a surprise after Aniston named ex-husband Pitt as one of her favourite guest stars on Friends.

Speaking to Access Hollywood about the upcoming highly-anticipated reunion, Jennifer, who played Rachel Green in the popular series, said: “Mr Pitt was wonderful. Fantastic.”

Brad had a cameo on the Season 8 episode, The One with the Rumour. He portrayed Will Colbert in the annual Thanksgiving episode and still hated Rachel from high school, which made for an awkward dinner. At the time of his appearance, the Oscar winner was married to Aniston. The pair began dating in 1998 and exchanged vows in Malibu in 2000 before splitting in 2005.

Apart from Jennifer, actors Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow also spoke about their favourite guest stars. Courteney and Lisa named Paul Rudd, Tom Selleck, Ben Stiller, Reese Witherspoon and Alec Baldwin as amazing guest stars as well.

“I was blown away by so many,” said Kudrow when asked to name her favourite star.

Aniston described Ben Stiller as “hysterical” and deemed Reese Witherspoon (who played her sister Jill on the show) “brilliant”.

The special reunites Jennifer, Courteney and Lisa with co-stars David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry on screen for the first time since the sitcom ended in 2004.

The reunion was filmed on Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, California, where the show was originally shot. It was set to be filmed in 2020 but faced delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was announced last week that the reunion special will also feature a variety of guests including David Beckham, Justin Bieber, BTS, James Corden, Cindy Crawford, Cara Delevingne, Lady Gaga, Elliott Gould, Kit Harington, Larry Hankin, Mindy Kaling, Thomas Lennon, Christina Pickles, James Michael Tyler, Maggie Wheeler, and Malala Yousafzai.

WATCH – The trailer of ‘Friends: The Reunion’

Friends, which followed six friends in their 20s and 30s who live in Manhattan, New York City, originally aired for 10 seasons on NBC from 1994 to 2004.
