‘Imran Khan hamaari Red Line’: PTI

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan filed a pre-arrest bail application in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday (August 22) to avoid arrest in a terror case filed against him last night.

However, Khan has been granted a three day transit bail till August 25.

PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry and Babar Awan filed the plea on Khan’s behalf, who maintained in the plea that the former prime minister is ready to appear before the court whenever summoned.

“There is no chance of fleeing or damaging evidence presented by the prosecution. Imran Khan is also ready to submit money as surety against his bail,” the plea stated.

A first information report (FIR) was filed against Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for threatening a judge and two top police officials during his speech on August 20.

    “Imran Khan hamaari Red Line”

“Imran Khan hamaari Red Line” [Imran Khan is our red line] started trending on Twitter after reports of Khan’s likely arrest surfaced on Sunday.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that he was at Bani Gala with a number of workers at Khan’s residence.

Ali Amin Gandapur threatened taking over Islamabad, warning the police not to be a “part of this political war anymore”.

“If Imran Khan is arrested by the imported government we will take over Islamabad,” he warned. “And my message to the police is that don’t be part of this political war anymore, otherwise we will deal [with] you as PDM workers. Let PTI and PDM leadership and workers fight and decide once and for all.”

Interior Ministry seeks permission for arrest from PM Shehbaz

According to The News, the interior ministry has sought written permission from PM Office for the arrest of the PTI chairman. Khan will be arrested with the consensus of all parties in the ruling alliance.

  • Tabish Hashmi set to become a politician, will join a party in near future

Tabish Hashmi set to become a politician, will join a party in near future

Host and comedian Tabish Hashmi has announced in a recent interview that he will join politics in the next 2-3 years. The Hasna Mana Hai star stated that he likes to challenge himself in life and now after carving his own niche in media, he wants to foray into a more serious profession. “People restrict themselves in terms of professional ambitions, but I don’t.”

Hashmi revealed this on a YouTube show, Foodies Carpool.

Tabish has been doing standup comedy and public speaking since 2004, his college days, but he got fame after hosting the digital show, TBH.

Hashmi recently shared pictures with his family on social media.

Earlier in another interview, the comedian revealed that it was, indeed, Sharma who copied a Pakistani concept and based his show on that and it was not the other way around.

Hashmi said that it was easy for people to say that “Hasna Mana Hai” was similar to Kapil’s show as the sets of both the shows were based on cities that look like each other — Lahore and New Delhi.

“On Kapil’s show, the set depicts Delhi. Our set portrays Lahore, and both cities are identical. have been to both cities. Delhi looks like Lahore, and Lahore looks like Delhi,” said Tabish.

Clapping back at his critics, the comedian-turned-host said that the concept of the set as well as the type of comedy projected on the show was a Pakistani concept.

“This is Umar Sharif’s concept. This is Amanullah’s concept. This is our concept,” said Tabish, adding that no one pointed out that Kapil stole Pakistan’s idea because India spent millions on it and marketed the show as if it was their original idea.

To further prove his point, Hashmi also juxtaposed Indian actor Amir Khan’s “Laal Singh Chaddha” with the Hollywood flick “Forest Gump”. He explained that millions of people would not have watched Tom Hanks’s Oscar-winning film, therefore, many would assume Amir Khan’s work was an original idea.

Tabish said the comparison was “unjust” as Kapil’s show was aired once a week, whereas his show is broadcast thrice a week with unscripted guests.

“In 2007, a show used to be aired on Geo, called “Chouraha”. It was made exactly on Sharma’s show format, but the Indian comedian’s show was introduced in 2011. No one said that Sharma copied Chauraha’s idea,” argued the comedian.

Despite the criticism, Tabish said he wanted his fans to “be by his side” as building a show was a “long haul process”. He added that he will not rest until “Hasna Mana Hai” hit its peak like his last venture.

The comedian, who has recently returned to Pakistan after living in Canada, said that it was an obvious choice for him to migrate from his homeland in the first place.

“In Pakistan, unfortunately, being rich or from the upper middle-class is not sufficient. You also need to have the ability to afford your socio-economic status,” said Tabish. He explained that when he used to live in Karachi, he could afford a car and have luxuries like air conditioners but did not have the money to maintain those things.

The comedian-turned-host said that security and lack of basic necessities was also a factor for him to take such a decision.

“There was no electricity, no safety. You need all these things [especially when] you are staying in a city like Karachi. This used to irritate me because I filed taxes, I was a law-abiding citizen, but even then, I needed to spend more on every basic need, and it made me decide that I must migrate from here,” he said.

When asked why he chose to return, Tabish simply responded by saying that he came back as he had the money to afford all those luxuries now.

  • Does the Pakistani man understand that no means no?

Does the Pakistani man understand that no means no?

A young girl was subjected to torture in Faisalabad. A final-year student, the girl alleged that her friend’s father became interested in her and even wrote her a formal proposal, which she declined. After she rejected the proposal, the accused pressurised her to change her mind. She received death threats. The complainant was even threatened that she could be raped. In videos that have now gone viral, she was subjected to physical and verbal abuse. Her hair was cut off and she was asked to lick shoes in order to humiliate her. She went through this abuse and torture only because she refused to marry a man who was also her friend’s father. This horrific incident shows how fragile Pakistani male egos are because they will not let a woman exercise her free will and choose to say no.

This isn’t the first incident of its kind. Back in 2018, a bus hostess was murdered in Faisalabad for rejecting a marriage proposal. We witnessed the same shock and horror that we are seeing today but did it change anything? No. Are women allowed to exercise their free will and choose the men of their choice? No.

In Punjab, the largest province of Pakistan, a total of 77 cases of physical assault were recorded in the month of July alone — 93 women in Punjab were abducted, and 47 cases of sexual assault cases were recorded. As far as domestic violence cases are concerned, Punjab reported 58 cases.

Women face the same problems across South Asia. In India, Bilkis Bano — an Indian Muslim woman who was gang-raped in the 2002 Gujarat riots — said that her peace has been taken away after the Gujarat government released her 11 rapists. Her rapists were released on August 15, i.e. Independence Day of India. They were convicted in 2008.“How can justice for any woman end like this? I trusted the highest courts in our land. I trusted the system, and I was learning slowly to live with my trauma. The release of these convicts has taken from me my peace and shaken my faith in justice,” said Bilkis in her statement.

With all the abuse, harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, and rapes being reported not just in our country, but around the region, where are we headed as a society? Where do we go from here? Where do we stand? Has humanity died? What about morality and protection in the name of rule and law? Will women ever be safe, anywhere? Women of Pakistan and across the world deserve better.

  • When Bollywood unofficially remade ‘Maula Jatt’ with Dharmendra and Shatrugan Sinha

When Bollywood unofficially remade ‘Maula Jatt’ with Dharmendra and Shatrugan Sinha

Blockbuster Lollywood film Muala Jatt starring Sultan Rahi and Mustafa Qureshi is a cult Punjabi language action-musical film directed by Younis Malik and produced by Sarwar Bhatti.

This movie belongs to a genre which represents the rural culture of Pakistani central Punjab. Its success set the trend of action films being popular in Pakistan and cemented Sultan Rahi as Lollywood’s leading hero.

Maula Jatt met with a ban not long after its release from the establishment of the time due to its violent content. However, the producer was able to acquire a stay order. The stay order not only gave the film a 2-and-a-half-year run time in cinemas but also helped the film make history as the first Punjabi film to have done so.

Now its official remake is releasing across the country on October 13th starring the biggest superstars of the country such as Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malick among others.

Now, fans and critics are hopeful that the film will finally see the light of the day and will release on the recently announced date, October 13 of this year.

However not many know that Indian film industry a.k.a Bollywood also remade this cult classic in the 1980s. Although its not a scene by scene replica but bears striking similarity in terms of plot, depiction and treatment.

Indian filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap recently took to his Twitter handle to laud Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi starrer, The Legend of Maula Jatt‘s trailer. “Finally the film I’ve loved so much and the film you really want to see, the trailer is out!” the Gangs of Wasseypur director tweeted along with the link to the trailer on YouTube.
