‘I’m in trouble’: Gill requests journalists not to take revenge for his past statements

An Islamabad district and sessions court on Friday (August 19) directed the Islamabad Police to shift Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Shahbaz Gill to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for another medical examination and submit a report on the condition of his health.

“Shahbaz Gill’s condition is not fine,” the court remarked.

The court issued the directives as it suspended a plea by police seeking the physical custody of Gill for another eight days.

Gill was presented before the court early morning. He was escorted by the police to court in a wheelchair from PIMS hospital after being deemed “fit” by a medical board.

‘For God’s sake, give me my mask back’: Gill

Shahbaz Gill accused the police of taking his oxygen mask off and said he was unable to breathe when he was shifted out of the ambulance.

During the hearing, Gill appealed to the court for his mask to be given back.

“For God’s sake, give me back my mask,” he said.

At this, the judge asked him if he intends to stay, to which Gill said he will if his mask is provided to him.

Later, an oxygen cylinder was also brought to court for Gill.

‘Don’t take revenge, I’m in trouble right now’: Gill requests journalists

Siddique Jan shared Gill’s message on Twitter.

“Shahbaz Gil sahib has told me to tell all journalists not to take revenge from him for the harsh language he had used against them in the past. He said he is in trouble right now.”

Gill is pretending to be ill and using this as an excuse: Islamabad Police

The Islamabad Police said Gill is pretending to be sick and using this as “an excuse”, adding that the medical board had declared him “completely fit”.

  • Mahira Khan, Nabeel Qureshi lash out at shopping app for illegally selling their film for PKR 20

Mahira Khan, Nabeel Qureshi lash out at shopping app for illegally selling their film for PKR 20

Feature films Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad and London Nahi Jaunga received commercial and critical success at the box office on Eid-ul-Azha. However now these successful films have become a victim of piracy, a widely and eternally decried practice affecting film and entertainment businesses worldwide.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is LNJ-QAZ-daraz-cover-01-696x391.jpg

The pirated version of these films is being sold on Pakistan’s biggest online shopping website, Daraz.

Actor Mahira Khan and director Nabeel Qureshi took to their Twitter handles to express their shock and anger on the app’s stint. Nabeel even announced that he will pursue the legal route

Theor film was being sold with a meager price tag in the name of “Azadi Sale”.

Innumerable copies of both films have been sold on the website of the shopping giant, as is evident from the comments section of the website. And it is surprising that such a huge platform would commit a such blatant violation of Pakistan’s piracy laws.

It is pertinent to mention that Daraz is owned by the multi-billion dollar international giant AliExpress, and that makes AliExpress equally involved in this case.

‘Give me back my right to live,’ Indian Muslim woman Bilkis Bano fearful after release of 11 men who gang-raped her

Bilkis Bano, an Indian Muslim woman who was gang-raped in the 2002 Gujarat riots, said that her peace has been taken away after the Gujarat government released her 11 rapists on Monday. Her rapists were released on August 15, i.e. Independence Day of India. They were convicted in 2008.

She has requested the government to reverse the decision.

“How can justice for any woman end like this? I trusted the highest courts in our land. I trusted the system, and I was learning slowly to live with my trauma. The release of these convicts has taken from me my peace and shaken my faith in justice,” said Bilkis in her statement.

“My sorrow and my wavering faith are not for myself alone but for every woman who is struggling for justice in courts,” she added.

“No one enquired about my safety and well-being, before taking such a big and unjust decision… Give me back my right to live without fear and in peace. Please ensure that my family and I are kept safe.”

    What happened with Bilkis Bano?

At the age of 21, Bilkis Bano was five months pregnant when she was brutally gang-raped in 2002 in Gujarat.

The 2002 Gujarata riots are considered one of the worst anti-Muslim riots in India that saw nearly 2,000 people — mostly Muslims — killed.

On March 3, 2002, Bilkis and her family members were attacked by about 30 people armed with sickles, swords, and sticks. Among the attackers were the 11 accused men.

Bilkis, her mother, and three other women were raped and brutally assaulted. Seven members of Bilkis Bano’s family, including her three-year-old daughter, were also murdered.

Bilkis is now in her 40s.

‘Not liable to answer or provide information to you,’ Khan tells FIA

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday (August 17) asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take back the notice sent to him in the prohibited funding case in two days, further stating that he would take legal action against the organisation.

“Neither am I liable to answer to you nor is it liable on me to provide information to you. If notice is not taken back in two days, then I will take legal action against you,” said Khan to FIA.

“ECP [Election Commission of Pakistan] did not give a decision but issued a report. ECP cannot order FIA or any other organisation based on this report,” said the PTI chief. He added that the FIA does not have the authority to act under the Political Parties Order 2002.

“The notice issued is also contrary to the FIA Act. Supreme Court has declared the ECP as an administrative institution in several decisions,” said Khan, adding that the ECP is neither a court nor a tribunal.

FIA sought records from Khan regarding the total funds provided to PTI by national and international companies, and business firms.

‘Censored for being trans’: Transgender rights activist barred from speaking at an event

Transgender rights activist Mehrub Moiz Awan was barred from speaking at TEDx International School Lahore (ISL) after some parents of students at the school came forward to complain about a transgender rights activist being included in the panel.

In a Twitter thread, Moiz wrote how the TEDx ISL admin informed her that she was being removed from the speaker’s panel because certain parents have stated that transgender individuals cannot speak to their children.

“I was informed that I am being removed from the speaker’s panel because some parents have stated that they can’t allow transgender people to speak to their kids. This is the International School Lahore btw. No objections to the talk, no additional censorship, just flat-out refusal because ‘parents ko aitraaz hai k koi transgender talk day’ were their exact words. Verbatim. Is this even legal? And if it is, is this censorship?” wrote Moiz.

Designer Maria B is also among those parents who complained about the activist being on the speaker’s panel.
